The Best Kind Of Friday

Yesterday I headed out bright and early to fly to Kansas.  Kansas.  And Kansas has never been so fun.

I’m a helper to Meg and Kimberlee at Whatever Craft Weekend.  I was insanely nervous…like little kid going to an amusement park the next day kind of nervous.  And now it’s just all insanely fun.

Hope you enjoy your weekend.  I know I will.

Happiest of Fridays.

1 Week In

Summer so far is just what I was needing, but I can say I am substantially more tired than normal since 7 days ago when summer officially started for us.  I can’t imagine why 🙂

We may already be taking full advantage of Sonic happy hour and have been frequenting it more than just on Fridays…our school year rule.  And did you know Sonic now has 25 flavors of slushies?!?!  We are easily going to try all the different flavors.  I’ve been letting Amon have his own small slush too…this may or may not be so me and the big kids can try and new flavor of slushy without forfeiting our favorite flavor in fear of getting a dud of a flavor.  Amon doesn’t care what is in the styrofoam cup just as long as there is some sort of liquid he can suck from that red straw.

I taught Solomon how to do laundry.  All the kids were bringing down their dirty clothes and Sol decided to hang around a little bit longer asking questions and offering to help, so I just decided to teach him and he did everything all on his own.  It was kind of adorable and I foresaw a grown man, hubby and dad…helping out and doing laundry.

Baseball is almost over for Hudson and Sol, but Josh’s is just beginning for the summer.  We love going to his games with our favorite Full Count guys.  Amon loves to watch.  This is literally right before our friend Adam crushed a home run into left field.

Naps.  Not only has Amon been napping harder than ever…I assume because he’s going harder than normal, but I have issued a house wide rest time for everyone around the same time everyday.  The big kids don’t have to sleep, but they have to stay in their beds and can look at/read books.  It’s becoming part of my survival summer kit.

I think Barnes & Nobel is going to be on our regular summer schedule.  The kids area is perfect for all of them.  They have tons of books and a train table which Amon loves.  Everyone is quiet and calm and reading.  And Amon is distracted 🙂  Huddy and Sol decided to buy a  new book with their own money, but Harper opted out this time.

And it’s not really summer yet until we hit up the wave pool…or Wave Country.  It’s probably our most favorite summer activity.  Josh has never gone with us because he’s always working, but he got to go Monday since he was off for Memorial Day.  And it did not disappoint.  We take our lunches, sunscreen, goggles and towels…and camp out wave side for practically the whole day.  I heart giant pools and over sized inter tubes.

So what all are you doing this summer?  Any big fun plans?  Have you already been to Sonic too many times as well?  Did you try to the atomic lemon slush?  If not, don’t do it.  #immediateheartburn

Happy Wednesday!

Doing What I Do Best

Rambling.  It’s what I’m good at.  I should probably become a more focussed blogger.  Really hone in on something deep and enlightening.  Gosh.  I’m entirely too scatter brained to do something like that.  And throw in a good long weekend with extra Josh Kelley around and I’m all kinds of thrown off…in the best kind of way.  I heart extra long weekends.

So when your mind is in disarray…when all else fails to make much sense in your brain…when you’re recovering from a long weekend…the infamous instgram post will have to do.  Are you on instagram?  You can find me at pitterpatterart.

Crafting on our patio is one of my most favorite things…especially when I don’t have to drag out a lot of supplies and there is baseball practice going on in the background.

We’ve decided to change their names to Beavis and Butthead.  Aaaaaand I just totally cracked myself up.  #teepeeformybunghole  (You didn’t realize you were going to be getting so much profanity today did you?!?!?!)

Tea time is totally legit with this guy.  Tea is no joke with him.  Until he dumps the entire pot of water out all over himself.

Running is still going good.  I’ve been doing lots of interval training to increase my speed.  April was a big 70+ mile month which was great to hit.  And May has been cray so I’ll be glad to hit 50.  Anyone else do interval training and want to share their plan?  I’d love to see what you’re up to.

This is so grainy, but it’s an Amon sleeping picture, so of course, I love it.  He was sitting in my lap while I was cutting fabric and then bam!  Just like that.  Out.

This girl is in full summer break swing.  Sleeping late.  Soaking it up.  Just enjoying herself.  I do think the boys are already grating on her nerves a bit though 🙂

And we’ve been frequenting the park.  Bikes.  Hikes. Running.  Picnics.  Playgrounds.  Basketball goals.  Water fountains.  Unafraid squirrels.  Honeysuckle slurping.  Summer is the best.

So maybe tomorrow I’ll do better…a little more focussed.  Maybe not 🙂

Hope your weekend was long and good too.  Happy Tuesday!

Spinach Salsa Salad

You guys!  Can I just say you kind of made my day yesterday with all the inquiries and emails about the spinach salsa salad I mentioned. Seriously.  I felt special.  And then I quickly realized you were all going to be highly disappointed when I shared it with you.  I wish I was some amazing chef, but alas, I’m not.  It’s sad.  I come from a long line of amazing cooks and I fall entirely too short.  I never come up with my own recipes and I don’t even like to cook.  Baking is an entirely different story…and yes, baking and cooking are completely different things.  Totally.

Well I don’t want to keep you waiting any longer for this amazing recipe that yours truly created out of thin air.  Thin air I tell you, thin air.  A stroke of genius, if you will.  Now stick with me because it does get complicated.  Do you have a pen and paper handy?  You’ll definitely need to write this all down.  It can’t possibly be committed to memory.

Laura Kelley’s Spinach Salsa Salad

(Individual Serving)

Step 1.  Take 1 cup fresh spinach and 1 cup fresh romaine, chop finely and mix together.

Step 2:  Add 2 tablespoons of your favorite salsa.  My salsa choice is Wholly Salsa…1 tablespoon classic medium and 1 tablespoon classic mild.

Step 3:  Toss together and enjoy.

Wow right?!?!?  I mean, I’m sure your mind has been blown.  This amazing creation came from the fact that I do not like the texture of spinach alone, so I mixed in some crunchy romaine.  And when I met Josh he ate salad without dressing and some things do rub off on you when you’ve been together for over 16 years…so we don’t use dressings, but we adore salsa.

I eat this every day…sometimes twice a day.  I top my hamburgers and turkey burgers with it, I eat it alone, with hummus, turkey and crackers, I put it in my omelets…I eat it with everything.  I have been known to get super crazy and throw in some olives and pickled okra.  Don’t knock it, ’till you try it.

Today’s lunch consisted of the following:

That’s a large dinner plate of 346 calories.  Thank you My Fitness Pal.  Take out the corn tortillas and you’re down to only 206 calories, but today I was digging something crunchy.

There you have it.  I hope you are floored with the depth and complexity of my creative recipe.  I hope you think I’m the world’s most amazing chef.  Let me know if you give it a try and come up with a new version.  I’m always up for twists.

Hope you have a great weekend.  And thanks for stopping by

Happy Friday!

It’s Finally Here

Summer.  Sweet, sweet summer.  I need to write a complete ode to you.  I want to kiss your face off.  Show you public displays of affection.  Put my hand in your back pocket  while we stroll through the mall.  It’s true.  I adore you and I want the world to know.  Let’s make it official and get airbrushed t-shirts.

Today is our first legit, official day of summer.  Harper finished yesterday and this morning we’re doing crazy fun things like…oh, well, nothing.  Nothing I tell you.  Nothing.  And it’s glorious.  We’re taking it easy.  I didn’t have to get up at 4:30-redonkulous-a.m. to run.  There was no packing of any lunches.  No rush.  No hurry.  Just full on chillaxedness.  And A) I actually did my devotional this morning and B) with Harper laying in my arm pit.  It was nice.

We’ve got nothing serious on our agenda.  We may go ride bikes at the park.  Or just play at the playground.  Who knows.  The world is at our finger tips.  We just may get super crazy and do both.

I’ve got grilled hamburgers, homemade fries and spinach salsa salad on the menu for dinner.  And we may even enjoy a dessert at the ball park while we watch our favorite Full Count guys play some ball.

It’s here.  It’s really here.  My heart already feels a little lighter.  Although our summer is going to be full and big and fun, we just have a more weightless feel to us when we’re in the easy swing of summer.  Late nights and late mornings.  Swimming and park playing and movie watching and wave pool rocking.  Ice cream and cereal for dinner and momentarily cookie making.  Tans and pruney toes.  Wet hair and flip flops or straight up bare feet.  Nothing really too pressing because it feels like we’ve got all the time in the world.  Longer, slower days.

Yes, Summer you are my new jam.  I think we will get along quite nicely.

Happy Thursday!

Just Like That

She asked if she could wear something cute this morning.  I said of course she could.  She ended up picking out her gray arrow tee and hot pink shorts.  I like her.  She told me all about how she’s excited and sad at the same time.

Last night she drew her ‘last day of first grade’ board.  She didn’t need any help.  She wanted to do it all on her own.  No spelling help required.  She has learned so much this year.  She has grown and been stretched in amazing ways.  She is this incredible little lady and it’s an honor to watch God work on her…to watch as He molds her and changes her.  I hope she feels Him…hears Him…sees Him…in and around everything.  I hope when He calls her, she comes running.

I walked her into school to deliver Ms. Flowers’ class gift.  Hello happy wreath with gift cards.  How many different ways can you present a teacher in one year with gift cards and/or money…lots!

I didn’t think I would be very emotional because I know this is what happens.  Time and growing and changing are nothing new…no big shockers, but when I was walking out of Susan’s room I started to get a wee bit teary.  Moist eyes.  Harper has had such a great year and Susan is such a wonderful teacher.  They really love each other.  And change is on the horizon for our family.  God is teaching us and growing us and changing us and although I know that’s what families do…this shouldn’t be a shocker…and yet it is…I feel it in my heart and head.  It’s exciting and nerve wracking and heart swelling and emotion brewing.  It’s strange how one day you are in hot pursuit of one thing…a dream…a goal…a want…a longing…and then Just.Like.That…God changes your heart.  Flips a switch.  Pulls you in.  Opens your eyes.  Says, “Look now.  See what I am really doing.”  Oh God, You are so good.

It’s hard to change…even though we always know it’s coming.  It’s so easy to tell God we love Him and trust Him and that we are His..that our children are His, but it’s a whole new story when we have to really act those words out.  When we look towards Him, open that tight controlling grip we have on our life and say, “Here God.  Here it all is.  It’s really yours.  Not my will, but Yours.”

“I don’t think the way you think.  The way you work isn’t the way I work.”  God’s Decree.
“For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think.  Just as rain and snow descend from the skies and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth, Doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry, So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed.  They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.  “So you’ll go out in joy, you’ll be led into a whole and complete life.  The mountains and hills will lead the parade, bursting with song.  All the trees of the forest will join the procession, exuberant with applause.  No more thistles, but giant sequoias, no more thornbushes, but stately pines— Monuments to me, to God, living and lasting evidence of God.”  Isaiah 55:8-13 The Message

Happy Wednesday.

Ms. Flowers’ Class + Pharrell = Happy

Whoa Nelly.  Is that weird lingo…like does it age me by maybe 30+ years?  Do only older grandmas say it?  I just feel like it’s appropriate wordage for how our weekend went down and even today.  Whoa freakin Nelly.  Should ‘nelly’ be capitalized…like is “Nelly” the name of the horse?  I’m guessing so.  Anyways.  So, crazy weekend…crazy happenings…crazy minds and thoughts and emotions.  We are just all out crazy town right now.  Bring on summer.  Maybe summer will ease all our hearts a bit, but until then, Susan…aka Ms. Flower’s just sent out a class text with the most amazing youtube link that will totally suffice until then.

Susan is one of those people who knows how to get stuff done.  And if she doesn’t know how to actually do it herself, she finds someone who knows how…makes friends with them…and then that person happily does it for her.  Like I said, she knows how to get stuff done.  Does she have how-to-make-a-music-video background knowledge?  Nope.  Does Susan know how to edit videos?  Nope.  Sync a song with moving video?  Nope.  Does Susan even know how to work a filming device?  I’m going to go out on a limb and say ‘nope’ again.  Buuuuut, does Susan know how to get stuff done?  Yes.  Things she envisions and dreams up?  Big time, yes.

Lily and Chloe we’re the answers to all those questions.  Two amazingly talented young ladies who helped bring Susan’s vision to life.  And it’s straight up amazing.  Turned my day…my weekend…right back up and made me straight up Happy.  I may have sobbed tears of joy.  It’s true.  I have zero shame.  So check it out HERE.  And share it with the world…because the world could always use a little more Susan Flowers, Pharrell and Happy!

Happy Monday…literally!

Color

It’s no new news that I do not shy away from color.  I just don’t.  I love it.  The more, the better.  The brighter, the better.  When given the opportunity to make things, unless someone requests all neutrals, I lean towards full on color.  No combination is off limits.  No color untouched.  Beware.

I have been working like crazy on lots of orders.  Thank you!  Thank you for placing all these custom order and purchasing things from sales.  Right now all the money I make is going directly to Full Count Ministries to help pay for our trips to Nicaragua this summer.  I am so excited.  Can’t wait to see what all God has been working on.  So honored to work with this ministry.

Brace yourself for the color overload.

I never intended to start making name pillows, but you guys asked and how could I say no 🙂  All these lovelies are headed to customers in Geaorgia, Indiana and here in Tennessee.  Thank you ladies so much for your orders.

This 12×12 was ordered for a teacher who was retiring.  The initials around the apple are all the previous schools she taught at.  Hope she loved it.

And this camera strap made it’s way to Illinois.  Thanks so much Hollis!

Also, I have a few items that have become “re-available” from my last sale.  One claim did not work out, so there are three news items available again.  I know someone else emailed me about the “Oh darling” canvas, but I cannot find the email for the life of me.  If you would like to purchase any of these items shoot me an email at pitterpatterart at gmail dot com and let me know.

Also please only claim an item or items if you plan to actually pay for them (said in a mannerly tone 🙂
