Prayed Into Hunger

In the middle of the night Amon decided to bring his A-game for eating…and I was over the top joyful.  He ate more in the middle of the night than he did all day yesterday.  So much, the doctors decided to let him have formula starting at 9 this morning and there was even some talk of us maybe going home this weekend.  Knock on wood!!!!  Formula is becoming our new best friend.

I’m happy to say we have been puke free the entire day.  And his picc line isn’t even hooked up to anything right now.  Holla!  It was a night of not a lot of sleep, but it was a good night.  Here’s video I took this morning of Amon…he gets excited when he sees the tiny bottle come out now.  Dang you uncentered video…I will figure you out one day.

This hospital has been amazing and this entire journey has been crazy.  I know Amon won’t remember, so I have been documenting the best I can for him with his globe messages and polaroid pictures.  Lots and lots of pictures.  I cannot wait to tell him about what a fierce little guy he has been.  He amazes me.

Some of you asked about what kind of polaroid I have.  I have the Fuji Instax…it’s ginormous, but I love it.  True love.

And it was 2 months ago today that I landed in Nashville with Amon.  What a joy it has been.  What a blessing it has been.  What a whirlwind it has been.

So thankful he is our son.  Oh my goodness…I just could never ever ever accurately describe how grateful we are for this sweet boy.

In some down time at the hospital I have been gearing up for our Random Acts of Kindness in December again.  My 30th birthday is coming up soon and it will be my first birthday without Mom so I decided to cram my day full of random acts of kindness too.  I’m even going to pull Harper out of school so she can participate with us.  I think it will be a grand birthday.  Also I would love some new ideas for our Christmas version…I want to change it up some from LAST YEARS LIST.  Would love for you to leave a comment with some new ideas.  Multiple minds are better than just one.

So that’s it for today.  It’s been such an encouraging day.  Thank you for praying for us.  Thank you for praying for Amon.  And Josh and the big wee Kelleys will be here any minute now with Chick-fil-a.  Hooray!

Happy Thursday!

  2. Marianne Cupples says:

Yay!!!!! So glad Amon is eating and keeping everything down! Our God is a God that hears and answers prayers!!!!!

  3. What are you talking about not centered? It was PERFECT! Watching him eat was wonderful! God is so good! Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow!

    • @ Jan – she means it’s not centered on the blog, like the pictures all are. (Sorry I don’t know how to fix it Laura!)
That is wonderful to see Amon so excited to eat! 🙂
That random acts of kindness list looks like a good idea, I might have to look into that some more…

  4. What a great day! So glad the little guy is making BIG strides! You’ll be home in no time and this incredible hospital stay will be another story for the Kelley Family Journal 🙂 Loved your random acts of kindness last year and was inspired to do it too (I didn’t get quite as many accomplished last year, but I’m aiming for it again last year). You are a wonderful example for everyone and ESPECIALLY your wee Kelleys! Hope you enjoyed Chick-fil-a!

  5. So glad to hear he is doing better!!

  6. I thought he was gonna get up and walk over to get that bottle! What a good day for sweet A!

  7. YeeeeeeePeeeeee!!!! That is Praising God WITH You!!! Oh how happy this post has made me! Love you -Girl! Praying for your release!! Soon!

  8. Still keeping up with you and still praying for you all. You are doing fabulous! Keep your eyes fixed…you can do this because He is able! And yay for the eating (I don’t blame him for not going for the Pedialyte…that stuff is yucky 😉 )

  9. Yay for not being hangry anymore! Eat up, little man!

My 30th birthday was my first birthday without my dad, but I didn’t do anything particularly inspiring. I love that you want to make it a random acts of kindness day! You have such great ideas, I don’t know if I can come up with anything better?! Have you paid for the meal of the car behind you in a drive-thru? Instead of balloons like last year, pass out stickers to kids out in public? Gather shopping carts in a messy lot? Leave a copy of a book you love where someone will find it – include a note about why you love it and want to pass it on (All of you could do this and leave them in waiting rooms in the hospital! I know Kelleys love books!).

  10. The video of Amon sure did bless me. 🙂 Praise God for this progress!!! We’ve been praying for all of you throughout this time and so have many others I have asked. Haven’t commented much due to being very ill, but I sure have had you all on my mind and heart and have looked in on the blog regularly. One of my favorite Random Acts of Kindess is to paint rocks with something fun and bright on the front and a kind word or two on the back. Then leave the rocks around on the ground for people to discover. Blessings and hugs!!!

  11. YAAAAYYYY for Amon’s sweet hunger! His eyes were so funny – he could NOT have opened them any wider – such a sweet, sweet sight to behold!

Last year, your Random Acts of Kindness inspired me in several small ways. Two of my favorites:

I left notes on bathroom mirrors in ladies’ restrooms – post-its that said things like “You are beautiful!” and “You matter! and even some inspirational messages. The mirror is NOT always our friend – and I wanted it to be.

Another thing I did was hand out $5 coupons to Contributor sellers for McDonald’s, Subway, etc. I also got some inexpensive umbrellas and gave out a few.

Thanks for being who you are!

  12. Praise God!!!! what wonderful news 🙂 the video of Amon brought tears to my eyes!

  13. CHARLIE HERNDON says:

Wow….always worth reading, Laura. You rock. Amon is one blessed little boy and some day in the future it will register, moving him to worship God. : )

Loved reading that little Amon is no longer hangry!! For some reason your videos never show up on my phone for me! 🙁 And we are currently having MAJOR issues with our Internet connection for the house so all of my web surfing is being done via phone. So no videos…I can’t wait to see it because it sounds great!!

And I was thinking, since you have been doing hospital camping for so long now…why not make some parent care packages for the other parents at the hospital you have been at?! You know what has been comforting and helpful to have on hand and I can tell you got the comfort foods down too!! So, you would be the perfect person to put together some goodie bag type care packages for some other sick kids parents! 😀

  15. Way to go, Amon!!! Eat it up sweet boy and then head to the house!!! So happy to see he’s doing so well! Prayers you’re home very, very soon!
I love your Random Acts of Kindness idea for your birthday. Really cool way to celebrate! I’ll happily send you a few things to contribute to your RAK day! Enjoy your CFA with your family! Hugs and prayers from across the miles…

  16. Praise God for the progress in Amon! Love reading your blog and hoping to meet you one day since we are both settled in middle TN!
I am soooo going to do the Random Acts of Kindness list with my family! LOVE. IT.
What about taping a gas card to the pump? Gas is so expensive! I also like the idea of little blessing notes put in public places…I believe God orchestrates the right person to see those notes!
    Happy early birthday too! 🙂

  17. Something just hit me for a Random Act of Kindness… Could you and your kiddos make a trip to Vandy to sing a song to a child who’s had heart surgery? That would be a totally cool way to remember one of the amazing things that happened before you turned 30!

  18. Julie Herndon creasy says:

My brother , Charlie, forwarded your blog to me. Such an inspiration! Amon has stolen my heart as God has touched yours. Your love and devotion is priceless. Praying for sweet Amon and your family as God works through his life! God bless you!
