The Color Run {becoming tradition}

The Color Run has been to Nashville three time now and we’ve participated all three times.  If you’ve never had a chance to enjoy the happiest 5k on the planet, you must…you just must.  It is so much fun…my favorite 5k ever.  Harper’s quite a fan too.  She even picked this for her birthday last march.

This year we got to enjoy all the color fun with the Barnes family.  It was the best.  Harper, Huddy, Sol and Amon all love Josh, Melody, Jarred and Luke…Josh and I do too.  It was their first time, so we were able to show them the ropes.

And always…always take before and after pictures…clean and then doused in color.

I love all these smiles.  Seriously.

In the past, The Color Run, has used 4 different powdered colors.  I was a little disappointed this spring run they only did three with one liquid color.  Still fun, but we were still waiting for that fourth color.

Yellow.

Pink.

Let’s go ahead and discuss how awesome Amon did…covered in colored.  There were a few tears here and there, but the kid rocked his color well.

And blue.

Those lashes.  Those lashes.

And then the after party.  Everyone goes crazy with all their different colored individual bags of color.  The fun, crazy fun color covered after. #tonguetwister  I’m especially loven’ the very statuesque dude in the background with his pink and blue face and Hercules pose.  So funny.

I feel like if Amon could talk he would have said, “What the what Mom and Dad..this is redonk.”

Thanks Barnes’ for the best day…you guys rock and are far too much fun.  Until next year…

Happy Wednesday!

The Color Run

Harper chose The Color Run for her family birthday fun.  If The Color Run comes to your area please go.  I promise you won’t regret it.  Talk about some crazy cool fun…alone, with a friend or spouse, with your kiddos or all of the above…just do it.

Last year Sol wasn’t feeling it and Amon had just gotten out of the hospital so only Josh, Harper, Huddy and myself went.  This year since it was for Harper’s birthday everyone went.  I broke the news to Sol gently…he just wasn’t game for people throwing powdered paint in his face, but this year the boy had the best time.  In fact, I dare to say he may have had the most fun out of us all…and that’s a lot of fun.  He led the way into a color filled 3.1 miles.

Harper has the best and most stellar teacher ever.  We saw Mrs. Tanner right at the beginning.  Made Harper’s day.  I cannot get over how much Harper looks like her…she could totally be her kid.

We started out all so fresh and so clean, clean…insert musical lyrics and hot beats.

Then came the color.  First up, yellow.

Then orange.

Next pink.

And last, blue.

Amon did amazing.  He just rolled along in his stroller and got his light dusting of color.  He did freak a bit at the finish line because of the crazy amount of people packed in so tightly, but he got over it quick.

The end was definitely super fun.  Everyone gets their own packet of colored powder and at the finish line everyone goes crazy with their color.  It’s pretty much color bliss.

I love Huddy’s hand on Sol’s head.  Sigh.

Amon was easily the sweetest, littlest Color Runner out there.  They should have given out an award for that.  He would have won.

These people right here…these 5 people…they’re my most favorite people in the whole world.  It was a mighty fun day celebrating Harper and being together.  I totally like our little family.  They’re each pretty dang spectacular.

Happy Tuesday!

The Happiest 5k On The Planet

A while back I heard about The Color Run and knew this was a must for the Kelleys.  This was the first year it was held in Nashville and I signed Josh and myself up the day registration opened.  Kids 5 and under are free so I knew we were good to go if the wee Kelleys decided to join us.

After showing the kids the video, I said, “So do you guys want to do this with me and dad?”  Sol’s words: “Nope…I’m not doing that.”  I thought surely with a little peer pressure and coaxing he would cave and come with us because Harper and Huddy were both game, but he stuck to his guns and decided to stay home with Amon.  I was bummed, but Sol knows what he likes and doesn’t like pretty well.  Maybe I can get him to do it next year.

Everyone wears white tees for a very good reason.

Our little family before picture…sun in the kids’ eyes.

Shortly, and I do mean shortly, after our wave began, Harper and Huddy both told us they were tired.  Ha.  We still had 2.9 miles to go.  There was some complaining near the start and the color stations could not show up quick enough, but once they did, it really was the happiest 5k on the planet.

I’ll admit as I walked with Huddy through the first color station, yellow, I teared up a bit…I want them to love things Josh and I love and mixing fabulous colors with a good run is in my blood.  A young guy singled Huddy out and absolutely dowsed him in yellow powdered paint.  I waited to see his reaction.

We were good.  All smiles and some spitting.  He wore his color like a badge of honor and the rest of the race was sheer bliss.

After yellow was orange.

Then pink.  Harper’s favorite and it probably didn’t hurt they were playing one of her favorite songs too.  She walked through the pink zone like she was riding a unicorn in a sky full of rainbows.

And lastly, blue.

At the end we all got our own bags of the powdered paint and everyone was celebrating by throwing them in the air.  Too fun.

We ran into some friends, The Greens, at the beginning of the race, so that added to our fun time for sure.

Our little family after picture.  Glorious.

The Color Run completely did not disappoint.  It was organized and fun and we all had a complete blast.  I’m crossing my fingers that next year Sol and Amon will join us.  Just have to get Sol okay with having paint thrown in his face.

Hope you had a colorful weekend too.

Happy Monday.
