Hey Monday!

Fall break wraps up today and it’s actually been quite fantastic, I mean, not that I didn’t almost lose my mind temporarily, but we did enjoy each other’s company as well.  It’s a balance.  I submit to you a small re-cap.

Costume thinking-about/trying-on/Harper’s-the-only-one-who-can-make-a-desion.  She wants to be a witch…again.  I’m thinking same dress as last year, maybe just add a new fancy witch hat since her $5 one from last year is long gone.

Target popcorn snacks.

Playing outside and mountain biking.

Spent all Friday morning with sweet Allie and her video equipment.  My Bible journaling class has officially been videoed and I was incredibly awkward, but honestly, I’m just crazy excited/relieved this part in the process is done.  The Interwebs will surely not know what to do with all of my awkward faces, words and hand gestures.  Allie was a dream to work with…crazy kind and sweet.

Pumpkin patch visiting and pumpkin and gourd purchasing.  And spelling gourd correctly took me 3 more times than I’d like to admit 🙂

Pan!  Oh my.  Need I say much more, but I will say this…I loved it!!!!  Like triple loved it.  And I have firmly decided it has my most favorite scene in a movie ever.  Four word clue: Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Reading, reading and more reading.  I officially have 3 readers in the house now.  Harper reads all the time…she loves a good book, but now Solomon is hot on her heels.  I feel like he’ll join a book club.

Baseball watching.  Full Count games are my fave.  These teenagers and coaches and parents…gah…makes me all gushy-love feeling and just thankful I get to watch it all take place.

And cousin sleepovers.  Harper can never get enough girl time…ever.  It does her little heart good.

And I already hear little voices scheming about the day.  I start my sugar detox today as well.  Oh my.  I don’t even know who I am.  I’ll probably die, but I’m excited to give it a try.  I do like a good challenge.  I’ll keep you guys posted.  In three days there will probably be a very angry post in all caps…that will be your sign it’s not going well 🙂

Happy Monday.

Fall Break Kick Off

We are officially on fall break which meant grocery shopping with 5 kiddos this morning.  I need a nap 🙂  I kid.  Kind of.  They are actually usually totally fine at stores…Amon just tends to get a little crazy with his small cart.  I yell things like “Watch your heels people.”  I don’t really, but should.  They are home for the next 7 days straight…they have off next Monday as well.  Last night right before bed I got super anxious and stressed and could have cried thinking about all “the things” for this week.  I kept thinking how His mercies are new every morning and this morning I felt much better.  I did decide to do major food prep today because not worrying about dinner takes my stress level down like 7 notches.  I precooked ground turkey for tacos and chili.  I’m thawing 2 things of chicken which I’ll precook tonight for White Chicken Chili (I use almond milk for milk and plain greek yogurt for sour cream) and marinate in THIS served with cooked cauliflower.  I will be responsible for feeding them lunches this week too…God save the queen.  They get free breakfast and lunch at school.  I went ahead and attempted another batch of cornbread and am soaking pinto beans tonight for Crockpot Pintos again…perfect, easy lunches.  And I made up a batch of Tuna Cakes too.  And now I need another nap.  Honestly, this absolutely helps my anxiety!!!

Our littlest has a pretty big meeting this week.  I keep praying and praying for us to simply love and support and show the love of Christ.  Reunification feels close at hand, which is amazing, but this is also very new for us.  Praying God makes us worthy of His calling and we make Him proud in the way we love.  This verse from 1 Timothy 1:5 the Message is where it’s at!

“…Simply love – love uncontaminated by self interest and counterfeit faith, a life open to God.”

Hudson’s surprise party was too fun.  He was adorable.  More on that later, but Sunday rolled around and 2 kids were nursing colds, we all had a birthday party hangover, Josh Kelley had his d-group with his high schoolers and so the kids and I skipped church and stayed home for 2 movies and a popcornfest.  It’s what we do.  I also attempted to give myself a few dreadlocks.  Which one I ended up wrapping in brown string.  When Josh came home I told him what I had been doing he smiled and said, “Good to know you’ve been using your time wisely.”  Hahahahahahahha.  He loves me.

Apparently October is the month for 31 day challenges.  I’ve seen a bunch of different ones…writing, blogging, exercising, etc but when Lesley Zellers posted her sketch a day challenge I decided to make the commitment.  I have loved this so much.  The prompts are great, it is challenging and new and makes me think outside the box.  It’s not too late to join up.  You can see my posts on my Instagram along with the hashtag.  Find me @pitterpatterart.

And Josh and I are extremely out of touch with any kind of pop culture…like clueless.  We had some movie theater gift cards tucked away and the boys went to a sleepover Friday night, so Josh took Amon and Harper to the movies.  When he got home he told me how out of touch we really are…bahahahaha.  If you have not picked up on Josh’s dry sense of humor by now, well, you’re missing out.  Dude keeps me laughing all the time.  Anyways, he told me about all the fun previews for upcoming movies.  I laid in bed Sunday morning with Solomon and watched every single preview we could find for Pan.  I really want to see this.  It just looks amazing.  We hardly ever go to the theaters, but I am considering not waiting for this one to come out in Redbox.

That’s it!  That’s all I have for today.  Here’s to a good fall break and a great start to another week.

Happy Monday.

Hi. {from Fall Break}

Thank you for putting up with my writing and encouraging me and just being kind.  The internet is not always nice, but I appreciate how even if we do not meet eye to eye about something, love and kindness and respect can still reign here.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for that.  My heart is still all over the place and it’s fall break around here for all 4 kiddos.  I’m sitting on our couch thinking about just about everything and scarfing down some McDonalds for a few more minutes before the wild Kelley 4 come running through the door.  I am apparently taking on night writing this week.  Fall break has been very uneventful so far.  No big plans or trips…too bad the beach did not call our name and that Josh Kelley has zero vacation days left.  There has been some slumber partying at their Aunt Jen’s and we did accidentally make 1000 cookies.  Okay it wasn’t quite 1000, but I completely underestimated just how many more cookies would be made by doubling some recipes.  We ended up with a crazy amount.  I wish I counted them.  That far back cooling rack has 5 and 6 deep stacks of cookies.  Never underestimate the power of doubling a recipe.  And sadly when you make 1000 cookies by accident you proceed to eat 10 in one day <—- that is not an exaggeration and I really wish it was.  It may have been more than 10.  Sigh.

I did successfully give away almost all the ones we did not devour ourselves.  God is still getting after my heart, so on today’s “Who’s That Creeper Driving Around Our Neighborhood” drive I met 4 new people…John, John, Washington and Ray.  They were not all hanging out together…if they were, it would have made this much easier.  Knock out this uncomfortableness in one “Hi.  I’m Laura and I live just a street over and…”  We got to know each other a bit, talked about life, I did my awkward praying over them and Ray and I even hugged it out afterwards.  It turns out it’s nice to meet new people and learn about their stories…just have to get past my nervous introduction.

In other fall break news I tackled a trunk full of paper ‘keepsakes’ I’d been holding onto for some reason or another.  Some I still kept, but I was shocked at what was not so significant to me anymore…like a black trash bag full of paper.  I did find two gems…this is me…in high school..in my high school parking lot…and that’s my sweet blazer of a ride.

I would later total this car when I hit a patch of ice on a back road while eating dry Cheerios from the box.  My glasses flew off in the wreck, Cheerios everywhere and my Mom drove up on the wreck.  When she came to my driver side door which was stuck I was freaking out “Mom, I’m blind.  Something’s wrong with my vision and help me I’m stuck, I can’t get out.”  To which she calmly replied, “Laura pick your glasses up off the floor board and get out on the other side.”  Genius.  But I digress.  What I love about the picture is Mom always put those giant cardboard things in our cars.  You were suppose to fold it out on your dashboard to try and keep your car cooler.  I don’t believe they even worked and I only used it for pictures like this.  #useful  Also I love the other little hand holding up the right side because I had to have one hand on my hip to make this picture worth it.  And please note the VHS tape I was obviously returning to the Blockbuster down the road.

This is the other little gem I found…me, Josh Kelley and Ashley.  We were just younglings.  I talked to Ashley tonight and I have to give her a shout out on her Noonday sales…the girl was #3 in sales last month.  This is awesome.  There are tons of ambassadors…like over 800.  I could not have been more proud of her.  Keep her in mind as you’re doing Christmas shopping this year…all you have to do is choose “Ashley Mills” as your ambassador at check out.  And Noonday’s winter line launches tomorrow.  Cannot wait to see it.

Amon’s not the only one who pulled out a “random sleeper” moment.  His slumber party wore him out.  We were just hanging out and I looked down…boom…asleep…and with the ankle grab for style points.

The kids have been discussing Halloween costumes.  I still want Amon to be Michael Jackson, Sol has no idea what he wants to be, Harper wants to be a witch and Hudson wants to be a ghost…and not just any ghost, but in his exact words “one of those ghosts that’s the sheet with the two holes cut out for my eyes.”  Alright.

I also started prepping for my 32nd birthday…which is really just my 31st because clearly something has gone terribly awry with my age.  This year I’m celebrating with 32 packages full of random fun for people who could use a bit of encouragement.  Dana…my digital genius…over at Lifelines Designs created the most awesome print for me to share.  It’s swoon city.  You’re crazy awesome Dana.  Thank you!

This guy.  I just feel like there’s really no need for any more words.

And since I shoot for honesty, let’s go ahead and make that 11 cookies for today because I ate yet another one mid post writing.  The truth is not always easy, but today it’s been delicious.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your night.  I’m sure to be up for another 4 hours because that’s just how fall break is rolling.

Happy Wednesday.

So Long Fall Break

So bummed…so incredibly bummed.  Today Harper went back to school and it is officially the end of fall break…which we lived up.  When I was clued in about fall break…just a few days before it began…we immediately started scheming.  How much fun could we pack into a weeks worth of freedom…a lot I tell you, a lot.

I also promised Harper some girl time.  She’s a good kid.  She has a sweet heart.  And she lives for girl time.  It’s not easy being the only girl with 3 little brothers, but she wears it well and with more tolerance than I probably would.  I wanted to make sure I followed through and delivered.

Playing outside every single day.  Fall break held amazing weather.

Lunch outside almost every day as well.  High-5 on less crumbs under our table.

Lots of crafting and painting.

A playdate with a sweet, easy friend…collaborative fall mural, lunch at McDonalds and ice cream included.

The Heart Walk.  A whole other post coming on this event.  My heart almost burst and my sunglasses hid my tears well.

Smorgasbord lunches and dinners because who has time to plan what their cooking on fall break?!?  Not me.  Leftover pizza, black beans & chicken, broccoli and applesauce…it’s whats for random refrigerator finds dinner.

Sleepovers which included girl time and crafting and popsicles.

The circus…which was amazing and creepy all at the same time.  The glowing butterfly lady acrobats were her favorite.  When they did their super fast spin gig they released glitter…it was whimsical…and she was hooked.  Huddy’s favorite part was the tigers  and Sol’s favorite part was the dogs.  Yep…the dogs.

Oh and The Color Run.  What, what!  Third time it’s been to Nashville…third time we’ve rocked it out.  We’re addicted.  It’s officially a Kelley tradition.

And now we’re coming down off our fall break high and it’s a hard habit to quit…all that fun…ugh, we’re already jonenen for more.  Bring on Christmas.

Happy Monday!
