Running, Baking & A Natural Waist Line

This dude is a crazy man now.  He is all over the place and into everything.  Today while I was baking he dumped out a box of spaghetti not once, but twice.  Geez.  But seriously, how could I be too mad.

Sol said, “Let’s do kiss faces.”  Done.

Harper had her Fun Run today at school.  We all decided to go and cheer her on.  I am so glad we did.  She just beamed the whole time and I may have cried…a lot.  Every picture I have of her is just a blur.  She ran the whole time and was sweaty at the end.  I’m still running my way to 62 miles this month and this made me super excited about the possibility that one day we may run together.  She even said when she got in the car, “The Fun Run was my favorite part of the day.  I really want to do that again.  Can I run with you in the mornings now…and on Saturdays and Sundays too?”

I did a crazy amount of baking today.  Last night way way too late, I baked a gooey butter cake to share.  It was so late I ended up going to bed right after I pulled it out of the oven and then got up at 2:15am to cut it up and put in the refrigerator.  It had to cool.  Then today I baked sugar cookies and chocolate cupcakes and red velvet cupcakes and snickerdoodles.  I did some sampling, but will happily drop goodies off tomorrow…just to say, “Hey we dig you.”  Baked goods can totally change the world.  Mark it.

And this is Huddy’s natural waist line.  That’s about all I feel really needs to be said.  And, you’re welcome.

Hope your day was stellar.  Excited for a lovely Valentines tomorrow.

Happy Wednesday!

  1. Huddy rocks.

  2. I used your suggested sugar cookie recipe earlier this month…easy & so good…but I had a hard time with timing…it was hard to get them just right w/out brown edges 🙁
I struggled with the icing. I used the one that you recommended on one of your other post…my icing looked NOTHING like your pictures. It was too thick to spread orginially…so I thinned it down then had to thicken it back up to ‘decorate’ the cookies. Any hints/clues/suggestions???
    Your cookies look freaking amazing!

    • amy…are you using the recipe I suggested for decorative sugar cookies…like the heart ones in this post? Just wanted to make sure I was giving you tips in the right cookies.

      • Hey Laura,

I am referencing the icing recipe you linked in one of your baking/cooking post…I forget which one. But this is has the recipe in this link http://thedecoratedcookie.com/2008/11/cookie-dough-and-frosting-recipes/.
        Thanks!!

        • Oh okay, so it’s the recipe I used for the cookies in this post. I make the icing as said in my stand mixer and add maybe a 1/2 teaspoon of water to the end result and then mix it a bit more. I use that consistency for lining and decorating. I then thin the icing with 1/4 teaspoon of water at a time until it gets to a more runnier, flooding consistency to fill the cookies in with. For actually baking the cookies, after I cut them out of the dough, I put each batch in the freezer for 10 minutes…this helps the cookie keep its shape and then I bake at stated temp for 7 or 8 mins. NO MORE. They burn so easily, so seriously 7-8 mins and pull them, even if you thing their not done. Also my cookies are pretty think…like I roll them out to about 1/4″-1/2″ in thickness. Hope this helps.

  3. Um, your cookies look professional. I think you should open up a bakery! 😉 And that natural waist line brought a smile to my face!

From the very first picture I saw of Amon I have thought this – he and Harper favor one another A LOT. Maybe it is just me, but it strikes me every time. And I love that even more after knowing that they have such a strong bond. Love it. Have a great night!

  6. Awesome cookies. And yay for runners in the family!
