Timbali Giveaway

One of my most favorite parts of each Swaziland trip is spending an evening hearing about Timbali, the Timbali women and shopping through piles and piles of Timbali goodies.  It’s exciting and fun and crazy beautiful!

Each week go-gos…the amazing women who cook tirelessly for the children…from care points in Swaziland gather together to cut fabric to take home and sew into beautiful creations.  They are using their gifts and talents to create and in turn help provide for their families financially.  Timbalihas become a major source of income and outreach to 100+ Swazi families!”

I love this portion from their website:

“Timbali means ‘flowers’ in the Swazi language, Siswatti. It’s also the word used to translate ‘lilies’ in Matthew chapter 6, where Jesus talks about how as his children, we don’t have to worry, because He knows our needs and He can meet those needs better than we ever could ourselves.

That is the heart behind Timbali Crafts: that we would see the Lord’s provision. Not just for the needs that are obvious (and extremely important!) like food, shelter, and education; but also for the deeper needs of the heart like love, acceptance, forgiveness, self-worth, joy, hope…all these things and more that are so perfectly found in Jesus Christ!”

I loved talking with Julie, the founder of Timbali, and hearing her thoughts and some new dreams for the women of Timbali.  Their products are amazing.  Their hearts beautiful.  Their hands busy.  And their will and desire to work hard and provide for their families unstoppable.  I want to dream beside them so we brought home 2 giant bags of Timbali products and are planning a party.  No ordering at this party, you leave with your item.  More details coming soon.

I also wanted to share some Timbali with you guys.  I want you to catch the spark.  I want you to tell your friends.  I want everyone to see how purchasing with a purpose has power and we can all certainly do our part.  So here’s the giveaway deal…One winner takes all in this giveaway…handmade Swazi soap (not Timbali), handmade necklace made by Lindiliwe, a Ngungwane go-go, adorable bird ornament,

awesome sling bag,

my favorite cosmetic bag,

awesome small multi purpose zipper pouch

& the large iPad zipper pouch…all for one person’s taking.

Thanks for entering and helping to spread the word about this amazing company and group of Swazi women.

Happy Monday!

Back To The Random

Happy Friday party people!  So many thoughts swirling in this wild brain of mine, but for today I’m sticking to the light hearted random which I know pretty well.  I mean, it is Friday.  We’ve got camping plans and by camping I mean a tent in our back yard and I bought s’more supplies, hot dogs and Lays potato chips for dinner.

Amon made his first purchase with his own money today.  It was adorable/exhausting/he took an eternity deciding.  He finally went with a mini baseball bat & ball and a small motorcycle lego kit.  I vetoed the large Han Solo. #thoseeyes

One of my favorite things about traveling is bringing home souvenirs.  Totally my jam.  And then I package them up and ship them out because mail containing crazy beautiful African surprises is the best!

If only you could hear this picture.  Our current littlest has been struggling a bit lately…lots of tears, lots of extra feistiness, lots of big emotions for a tiny human.  I’m learning more and more how dang important praying and petitioning God with my requests, worries and thanksgiving is.

More Swazi stories and posts are coming for next week because I just can’t stop yet.  We also did a safari on our last day in country.  It was the most amazing thing ever…like I got all emotional at the sunset and stars…I was all sorts of calm, cool and collective…a born leader 🙂  I utilized my selfie stick a lot too.  This was one of my faves.

Practice, practice, practice.  Even outside while a small gang of children run wild.

When they Bible journal with me I kind of love it…minus all of Amon’s pen marks on our comforter and ummmm, the 47 questions.  And I still have 9 spots available for July’s Bible Journaling Class.  Come on now, you know you want to come hang out at our house and eat cookies…peer pressure a friend into coming with you!

And lastly, make sure you check back Monday for a fun Timbali giveaway.  I’m slightly obsessed with all the new Timbali I brought back and want to share with you guys too.  Fun and easy giveaway coming Monday morning…necklace, ornament, soap, sling bag, cosmetic bag, zipper pouch & iPad zipper pouch…one winner takes all.

Thanks for reading.  Thanks for being crazy kind.  Thanks for stopping by!  I think you’re pretty great!

Happy Weekend!

Plenty of Room

July’s Bible journaling class is just around the corner and right now I’ve got a pretty low number 🙂  I know it didn’t help me being all MIA around here while in Africa with no connection to the inter webs.  So here I am to remind you of the July 25th class.  I wanted to re-post all the details and let you know there’s plenty of room for you and the money earned from this class will be flipped right around and headed back to Swaziland…buying sewing machines or cabinets or going towards our big goal of putting in a playground for all the kiddos.  I’m waiting to get number’s for one of the projects and then we’ll go from there on figuring out what to do first.  I’m pretty giddy about it.

(I Bible journaled while driving into Swaziland from South Africa and I kept cracking up because Marcie was “before my eyes” the whole way.  She helped me out with the picture.)

This class is seriously one of the highlights of my month.  I absolutely love meeting all the ladies, teaching about what God has been teaching me about His word and all the creative tips, tricks and ideas I’ve learned and use while Bible journaling.

You can read my original post HERE, but here are the main details again.

When:  Saturday, July 25th

Time: 1pm-4pm

Where:  Our house.  Near Nashville, Tn

Cost: $50

This class will be 3 hours in length and we will talk about the process of Bible journaling and I will share how I go about this each day.  We will also talk about supplies and tips, tricks and techniques I use.  There will be time for questions throughout the class as well as time for you to do some of your own Bible journaling and practicing.

Each person will bring their own supplies.  You can read about the supplies I use on THIS POST, but please feel free to bring the items which work for you.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE THE ITEMS I USE.

There are 11 spots still available for this class.  If you would like a spot email me at pitterpatterart at gmail dot com or Message Me Here.  You can reserve more than one spot, so gather up your family and friends and make it a girls time.  This will also be a kid free time…sorry, no kiddos.

I do hope you will join us.  Can’t wait!

Happy Thursday!

Comfort, Courage & Hope

Today we wave pooled all day long.  I didn’t sleep well last night and was up quite a bit.  Couldn’t sleep this morning so I got in a good run and grocery shopped solo all before 7am.  Everything feels a bit different when I come back home.  It’s strange being home with such an excited and yet overwhelmed heart.  I look at clean water differently.  I stared weirdly at my cart full of colorful fruits and veggies at the grocery store.  Simplifying more of our life yet again and again rushes over my train of thought.  Are we living our one vapor right?  Are we bringing Him glory with our family?  Do my kids truly understand to be first they must really be last?

I keep thinking about all these crazy amazing kiddos and these people who are the light of Christ in their community half way around the world.  I keep running 1000 thoughts and ideas through my mind about how all these dreams will happen…getting 78 sweet kiddos sponsored, raising $16,500 to have a playground put in the middle of Swaziland, raising funds for sewing machines so ladies can help provide for their families, funds for cabinets that lock so the preschool teacher can keep supplies on site, how to help local woman around me see the value in purchasing with a purpose through companies like Timbali and the list rattles on.

Today the idea crossed my mind to try and explain what exactly the Ngungwane carepoint is.  I want people to understand why this place is so important.  I want others to join us in these dreams.  I want to take more people to Swaziland, Africa.  I want others to experience the extreme joy and love which is waiting in this tiny country on the continent of Africa.

The Ngungwane carepoint sits in a community in Swaziland…an actual physical location…a plot of land which has a building, a small outdoor cooking area, a bathroom and a solar well.  There is a group of 4 go-gos (grandmother/mother figures in the community) who come to the carepoint and cook for around 140 kids 6 days a week.  There is 1 preschool teacher, Constantine, who lives just across the road who comes and teaches the preschool kiddos while the school age children are in school.  She wears her sweet newborn daughter Blessing on her back while her other daughter Happiness plays along with the other littles.

Ngungwane also has a shepherd named Hlobi.  She’s the boss lady 🙂  Hlobi takes roll everyday.  She not only cares about these kids and their futures, but she mentors them and disciples them…she teaches them about Christ and the hope found in Him.  She’s been trained for a year at a leadership academy in South Africa on discipling and wants to pour into the future leaders of Swaziland.

6 days a week this small plot of land is flooded with Swazi children who come not just to be fed a meal, have access to clean water and receive medical treatment if needed, but also to be seen and loved and fed spiritually.  They play and sing songs.  They learn.  They eat together.  They all pitch in to clean up after meals.  They smile and laugh.  They care for one another.  They are a family.

On one of the last days we were at Ngungwane a man named Neil who lives in the community came by to chat.  It was quite the conversation ranging from inspirational to laughter to questions about the future of Ngungwane.  I was so intrigued by all he had to say.  Afterwards I grabbed my notebook and jotted a quick note down about something he said.

“This carepoint represents comfort, courage and hope in this community.”

And I was struck deep by those words.  They played over and over again in my mind.  Comfort, courage and hope.

Here’s what I know…I know a lot of the time we can feel like the problems and the unfairness of this world are too big we can’t possibly make a difference, but this is simply not true.  God has called us to love and to love big.  He has called us to love which acts.  He has called us to first love Him and secondly love others.  We make a difference in this world by loving…by looking at others, our brothers and sisters in Christ, and simply coming along side them and treating them as we would want to be treated.  People are not charities.  People are not good deeds.  People are people…all created in the image of Christ…all daughters and sons of the King…each one of us absolutely adored by Him…and each one of living and carrying stories which matter, count and deserve to be told.

So we choose to do.  We choose to act.  We choose to love.  We choose to truly believe sharing each other’s stories and linking up arms with one another really does matter and can change the world.

Happy Wednesday.

Home

Our Swaziland team arrived home early this morning.  It’s been a long day.  Coming home is always interesting to me…figuring out if I’m going to fall victim to jet lag, getting re-acclimated, taking a good long hot shower, assuming my role as mom again…all of it can be a bit overwhelming.

I’ve thought about sitting down to type out some thoughts all day long, but the time never came.  My heart and mind have been overwhelmed and there have been games of Sorry and Mancala which needed to be played, movies to watch, photos to share, popcorn to snack on and lots of souvenirs to pass around and taste test with these wild 5 kiddos.

We did not have internet or phone access while we were away.  I’ve missed you guys.  I missed Josh Kelley and our little tribe madly, but boy, what a trip.  What a team God allowed me to be on.  What incredible people we were with all week.  What crazy amazing kiddos we had the privilege to love on and be loved by.  What strong and courageous ladies we got to know who lead Ngungwane, these kiddos and their community.  Every last bit of this trip was just an honor…I can barely get past this fact.

There are new dreams.  There are seeds God has planted.  There is work to be done.  Starting with these sweet kiddos and getting every last precious one of them sponsored.  You can CLICK HERE and choose “unsponsored” in the status bar.  $38 a month does the trick.  There are more trips to be taken.  Consider joining us.  God is truly building something…He’s taking something which is already beautiful and making it crazy beautiful.

So I’ll be working on all my thoughts this week.  Josh Kelley has been a sounding board already.  I like him.  Hopefully there will be some sleep gotten and thoughts will work their way out.  It was a grand trip and it’s good to be home.

Happy Tuesday.

2 Days

Well I’m headed to Africa in just 2 short days.  Crazy, crazy, insanely excited.  I wish I could list out the supplies we are taking…it’s the wildest thing I’ve ever seen.   The list ranges from an essential oil diffuser to boxes of coco pebbles & fruit loops to bubble wands to first aid kits to indestructible soccer balls.  I’ve alerted everyone I will need a picture of all of us and all our bags.  You have been warned.

So as you can image things are wild around these parts.  And when things get wild, I tend to get weird…like weirder than normal.  It never fails when preparing for a trip with a list a mile long of things to accomplish, I always decide I need to start and finish some meaningless project.  Thank you Pinterest for my new DIY passport wallet obsession.  It’s a real thing people.  And I feel like this is when I should tell you I bought the leather from a discount bin from a shady chap with quite an impressive mustache.  Good stories contain details.

I did finish up my last custom order…and I kind of don’t want to let this 15×30 go.

I also snuck in another Gifter Project canvas.  I’m going to try and knock one more out before I hit the airways too, but we’ll see how that goes.

On Tuesday I did the best thing ever and paid the sweetest college girl in all the land to come to our house for like 5 whole hours while I ran the most ludicrous amount of errands ever.  You guys it was a long, long list.  I new I had made the greatest choice in young ladies when she sent me this picture:

I wish I could keep her forever!

In other sad news, it’s been raining for 2 days here and this means there has been no swimming in 2 days.  We’re all going through withdrawals.  Games, games, movies, iPad time, crafts, more games, more movies…it’s a vicious cycle.  And does anyone else loathe Monopoly?!?!?!

He kills me.  He’s my quirky child and I could not love it more.

I feel like every summer day deserves donuts!  It’s just fitting.

And yesterday I erased our chalkboard and put up a new one.  Josh Kelley is solo parenting while I’m gone.  He’s the dad who has to take off work or work from home while I’m gone, all the while wrangling this wild tribe of children.  I can honestly say we are equal co-parents…equal keeping the house up partners…he does his 1/2 and much more…lunches, dinners, baths, laundry, dishes, cleaning, you name it.  Parenting is hard and lately I keep running the fruits of the spirit through my head daily and I know my Kelleys staying behind, big & small, will need this reminder while I’m away as well…big & colorful.

So that’s my random for today.  Thank you for stopping by and reading.  I’m grateful for you kind people!  Hope you have a great Thursday!
