Barn Painting

Today I finished an order.  The customer wanted a barn that could be for a boy or girl.  The background is painted and the barn is all fabric and stitched down with my sewing machine.  I cut out a loft area, so when the baby is born I can go back and paint in the child’s name.  Around the roof of the barn I printed the verse Psalm 71:6 “From birth I have relied on you; I will ever praise you.”  This verse was chosen by the mother who will be recieving the piece.  I thought it was perfect.   Hope she loves it.

Stitched Butterfly

One of Harper’s favorite books is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  By the way anything by Eric Carle is amazing and all his art is done in collage form and they are truly unique and so amazing.  Anyways on the last page of the book the caterpillar turns “into a beautiful butterfly”.  Today the picture inspired me and while Harper napped I got to work.  Tonight I finished the final details.  I painted the butterfly first and then went back and sewed on several pieces of cut fabric.  I really like how it turned out, but the edge is not that pretty.  I painted it pink, but you can still see the staples.  You might need a frame.  If you are interested this is listed in Items Available Now.

For Harper

Harper’s 1st birthday is just around the corner and I cannot believe it.  I wanted to paint her something special for her birthday and we have been spending alot of time at home lately, considering we are having work done to our house.  We’ve been hanging around to make sure everything goes okay.  So I have been working on Harper’s painting and finished it last night.  More than anything I want Harper to love God and love other’s like God would.  The way she will treat others is SO important to Josh and me.  I wanted her painting to have a bit of her personality and a special message that we want her always to remember.  I hope she will love it as she gets older, especially that her mom painted it just for her for her 1st birthday.

Lastly, here is one more new burp cloth I finished today.  Shoot me an email if you are interested in purchasing any of my new burpcloths.  You can also find them in Items Available Now.

Experiencing Technical Difficulties

So, you may have noticed pictures missing from my sight and let me tell you, I’m not happy about it.  In fact I’m completely stressed about it. I recently had the opportunity to show my work to a local children’s boutique. The owner was looking at my sight and made the comment “All I see is kids and cookies.” So I helped her get to some of my recent pieces and everything worked out well.  She actually invited me to sell my stuff in her store. Her comment though, made me take a look at my sight. I like all my pictures, but I decided to clean up my Flickr account and make it only pictures of my art. So I went in and started deleting. After the fact, I checked my site and to my astonishment alot of my pictures were gone. So here I am. Now I have to re-download all the pictures I deleted and re-insert them into my posts. If someone out there knows any easier way, please let me know. Just wanted to explain the malfunction.

New Stitching

First off, I am very excited about one of my new creations.  I really wanted to work on some paintings recently and set to work Saturday night.  While painting it dawned on me…can I sew on a canvas?  So what does any good artist do, they at least give it a shot.  So that’s exactly what I did.  I am super excited because I think it turned out great.  I can’t wait to try another.  What do you think?

Secondly and lastly, here are some new burp cloths I have been working on.  If you are interested in purchasing any of them or would like to place an order just let me know.  All of these are just sitting waiting to be someones.

And The Winner Is…

…Sherry Wescott.  Thanks everyone for making comments and all the encouraging words.  Hope everyone is having a great Valentines Day.  Sherry I will try and get a hold of you to get your address.  Thanks to all.

A Long Post

“Our” Internet has been down at our house and I am actually sitting in the parking lot of Panera because they just closed and I didn’t have enough time to finish my post.  There are several things I have been really wanting to post about, just itching to.  First, was my day with my little niece McKinley and all the fun we had.  McKinley is 2 1/2 and a true blast.  Friday, Harper and I spent just about the whole day with McKinley, Jack and Kim.

Harper loves McKinley and was really into Jack, when he was on the floor and she could get her hands on him.  She even knocked his paci right out of his mouth.  I think she’s letting him know early who’s boss.

And then McKinley stayed even longer and decorated cookies with me and then she spent the night with Grammy.  TOO much fun.  McKinley and Jack are super sweet, but McKinley is especially sweet to Harper.  Here’s evidence of all our cookie fun.

I LOVED Mckinley’s concentration.

Yes, Harper is eating a sprinkles bottle.

I also made McKinley a cookie can to carry all her cookies  home in.  She was too cute carrying this with both hands out to Grammy’s car.

So after we made cookies, we decorated some cupcakes and McKinley enjoyed hersef a yummy chocolate cupcake.  Do you think she really enjoyed?  I would say so.

Thanks for a wonderful day McKinley.  I love you!

So next order of business is a recent painting I finished.  I painted this for some parents in North Carolina to welcome there son who should be arriving soon.  I saw this canvas in an art warehouse in Nashville and just had to buy some.  It’s 12×48, so super long and skinny, which I love.  I have been dying to use it, but the opportunity had not come around yet.  I talked with the mother who was placing the order and made the proposal to use this size and she was in.  I really like how it turned out and hope they do too.

Next is just my new favorite picture.  We went to eat at my Mom’s last Saturday for Kim’s birthday.  Before Kim, Chris and Jack arrived this is what I caught on my camera.   Don’t you love it too?  How sweet are these cousins!?!

And lastly, we had our first real snow day today.  Harper liked looking out the window, but we just lounged inside all day.  Carmen joined in, as always.

So thanks for sticking it out for this one.  I warned you that it was a long post.  Also, don’t forget that tomorrow is Valentines Day.  That also means I will be posting the winner of my lemons painting.  So check back.

Today Was A Good Day

Today one of my kindergarten students from last year, Presly, came to visit Harper and me. Presly is the best. We love all the same things like art of any kind, especially painting, cookies, “weenie dogs” and lots of other great things. She is definitely a child after my own heart. It probably doesn’t hurt that Harper and her favor each other with their big brown eyes and dark brown hair.

So today we had the BEST time. It was so much fun. Harper loved staring at Presly all goofily and trying to pull things off her crocs. Presly was great talking to Harper and letting me know when Harper was going up the stairs. Not to mention all the other fun we had. We started off by decorating a fork and spoon Presly brought from home. Presly picked out all the beads and I slid them onto the metal wire. Didn’t she do a good job? I love how Presly chose buttons to put on the fork and spoon along with some beads.

We then started with our cookie decorating extravaganza. I haven’t decorated cookies since Christmas so I was super excited to get started. Presly even made me my own cookie with my name on it and I already ate it. It was yummy.

I also had made Presly a Valentine can to carry all her cookies home in. All I did was decorate a small, empty paint can (it never had paint in it, it was NEW) with some pretty fabric and felt. I think it turned out pretty cute.

Last, but certainly not least, we painted. Presly is so good at painting and I really enjoyed painting with her. I haven’t had too much time to just really paint anything I wanted to so this was nice. I liked sitting at our dining room table with Presly just talking and painting with our jars of water and paints everywhere. Presly did a great job. She painted a 5×5 acrylic heart and a 5×7 acrylic sunshine. I painted a quirky little 5×5 acrylic painting for Harper.

It was a GOOD GOOD day. Thanks Presly for coming to visit with us today!!! YEA!!
