Glazed Pear

I have really been trying to paint alot lately, due to the fact that I will be participating in a Christmas Bizzare at Long Hollow Church.  I want to make sure I have plenty of stuff that would appeal to all sorts of individuals.  I recently read an article about using a medium called glazing.  It comes in all sorts of thicknesses, but recently I purchased a jar of extra thick glaze.  You can use it in several different ways to make your paintings look different.  I recently painted a pear and used the glazing.  It made the painting look “wet” and very textured.  I really liked how it turned out.  I tried to capture the affect with my camera, but not sure if you will be able to tell or not.  Now I am considering printing a verse around the pear, but can’t make up my mind.  If you have any ideas let me know.

Finished Piece, New Painting and Just Because

Today I picked up my pottery and I am very pleased with the finished piece. Now I need to find a great place to show it off. So as promised, here is the picture.  Notice the difference between my before and after pictures (see previous post for before pictures).  Paints used on pottery can be very deceiving.  Once they are fired they look totally different.  Picking the pottery up is my favorite part, it’s so exciting to see what it looks like.

Now onto my latest painting…I painted this for a guy who wanted something manly and would go with his new hardwood floors. It’s simple, clean and masculine. I used a new technique with layering, scraping and taping.

And last but not least, Just Because. Here are two of my most recent favorite photos of Harper. I know she has nothing to do with art, but I could not help myself. I love this child.

Birthdays

I love birthdays.  This year Josh and I both turned 25 and it was also our first birthdays as parents.  For Josh’s birthday in September, Harper and I made him a stepping stone for the yard.  He said it was the best gift ever.

So for my birthday, today (YEA!), Josh took the day off and he took Harper and I to paint pottery.  We usually go to a little place in Hendersonville called Brown Dog Pottery, but it wasn’t open today, so we went just right down the road to a new place in Goodlettsville called Sentiments.  It was so neat and we were the only ones in the place.  Josh was wise to take me along because can you imagine Josh and Harper in a pottery place and Josh trying to get her handprints on something by himself along with trying to finish the piece while taking care of Harper?  And anyone who knows me, knows this was right up my alley.  Anyways, we had the best time and Harper was SO good and cooperative.  I can’t wait to get my finished piece back. I will post the picture next week.  It was a great birthday.
