Red Flowers

As an artist I often get stuck in a rut and paint similar things over and over again. These paintings are from a couple of years ago and I like to refer to them as the red flower phase.  But let me explain first…My mom, who is the best (love you mom), is the youngest of 12 siblings.  That’s right, I said 12 siblings.  Anyways the 12 were made up of 9 girls and 3 boys.  My Aunt Dorothy, the eldest of the sisters, was a wonderful artist herself and an interior designer.  Before she lost her battle with cancer she helped all of her sisters decorate their houses.  Her famous decorating quote about using the color red was, “The life is in the blood.”  Not only was she was referring to the warmth red brings to a home, but also that life is in the blood of Christ.  She was a great woman.  So to make a long story short, one day I painted a red flower, my mom saw it and loved it.  Soon after several of my aunts and cousins wanted one.  So is the story of the red flower phase.

My mom’s

My Aunt Tootsie’s

My Aunt Lynda’s

My cousin Beth’s

My other Aunt Linda’s

My cousin Deanna’s

I never realized just how many, very similar red flowers I had painted.
