December 22

It was one of those days…like I could only find one cruddy black Sharpie marker, when I have a million perfectly good Sharpies somewhere.  Just one of those days.

For Random Acts of Kindness Advent we delivered coffee and doughnut holes.  We originally planned to do this for outdoor workers, but today it rained, so no workers were out.

So we headed out on a mission…to find some people that would like some coffee and doughnut holes.

No outdoor workers, but we did find people waiting at the bus stop, a Salvation Army Bell Ringer, some Contributor Newspaper sellers, one mail lady and some employees out on their smoke break.

Coffee and doughnut holes all around.

Tomorrow we will be…

handing out food gift cards.  The gift of food…just can’t get much better than that.

And tonight Josh and I had a little date night…Sherlock Holmes + photo booth = good for my heart.

I have elected to just give up on makeup currently…there’s just no point 🙂

Only 3 days left.

I think I will be a little sad when it’s over.  We might just have to do this year round…shouldn’t we anyways.  Yep.  Keep the kindness up…it’s fun, oh so fun.  See you tomorrow.

PS:  The winner of our 13 Months Art Giveaway is…

#67 Mandie.  Super congrats Mandie.  Thank to everyone who entered…totally loved reading about all your Christmas memories.  Thanks for sharing.

  1. My husband & I were just talking about this yesterday. Everybody thinks about doing things for people at Christmas time, which is great! But, what about the rest of the year? The old adage goes, “Give a man a fish & he’ll eat for a day, teach a man to fish & he’ll never go hungry.” We were talking about the Project Angel Tree families…but the opportunities are endless. Wouldn’t it be great to adopt a family for the year? Help them, pray for them, mentor them, love them & show them God’s love so that they in turn, can pass it on to someone else.

  2. Connie and Laura…our daughter and I had a similar conversation. This should become a way of life for all of us. If not a daily thing maybe once each week or once each month (whatever fits each person’s circumstances) looking forward to the RACK during December. If we all would choose to live this way, the next generation would do it naturally, because every mom doing this would be teaching her children that this is way we should all live. Another thought I had while reading through your blog every day, Laura, was that each person could do this in memory of a loved one they have lost. When you said Harper asked you “specifically” what you were going to do so she will not forget her Grammy, that touched my heart. We could each select as our kindnesses things we know our departed loved one would have done and involve our children/grandchildren in picking those kindnesses. This would be a way for us to keep the conversation about those we loved so much alive and implanted into the memories of our children and grandchildren. Laura…you and your blog friends are much more creative than I, so it would be exciting to see all of you “brain” storm and come with new ideas for all of us. This might be a wonderful way to get the New Year started…

  3. Today I had to pull a Laura! I bought the man behind me in McDonald’s breakfast I told him this is in honor of a friends mother! I couldn’t help myself but thinking of you going around like this doing all these wonderful things for others teaching your children and all of us how to pay it forward made my Christmas this year! I just want you to know that you are such a wonderful beautiful person inside and out!!! No makeup needed…I thank you for what you have done for me this year just to read your blog and walk with you through ” a tiny” bit of what you are carrying made me a better person. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family, you have made me laugh cry and Praise God many days!! I pray God blesses you over and over and over again!!! I pray that he takes the horrible pain of grief away and that one day, one day you will wake up and be able to smile and laugh and know in your heart that your mother is just waiting waiting for that precious day that we all will see one another again! Merry Christmas! Love Mylinda
