December 10

Today for our kindness advent we were going to give a gift card to a single mom…actually it’s a single grandmother.  And then we awoke to snow, so the gift card is just hanging out in Harper’s school folder, until it will be officially delivered tomorrow.  Whether you are a parent or grandparent and you are doing this whole parenting thing solo…kudos to you.  If you don’t personally know many single parents, check your local school or church.  I guarantee if you ask the front office if they know of a single parent who could use a little extra help, they will totally be able to point you in the right direction.

Tomorrow, as long as school is back in session, we are treating our school staff to donuts.  Ummm, donuts could make the world go ’round.

And we are already enjoying our snow day.  I actually just saw out our front window Sol pick up a piece of cardboard he found in our yard and lick the snow off it.  Gross.  Maybe this is why they have such good immune systems.  We will for sure be watching movies and eating cookies on a Tuesday.  I kind of love a good snow day.

So, you remember a while back when I talked about wanting to do craft nights?  Like in our house?  Our tiny little house?  And, yeah, it totally happened.  This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and I finally said, “To heck with you fear.”  And gave it a whirl.  16 woman.  2 crafts.  And feedback forms at the end to see what they thought and to hear their input on how things went.  They were my guinea pigs for the legit thing.  And I actually think come 2014, I might open it up to the public.  It makes me all nervous and giddy and excited and fearful, but I think it may work.  Just maybe.

And I’ll leave you today with this little gem.  It was brought to my attention that I do not have not one of those classic crying baby with Santa pictures of Harper, Huddy or Sol.  I actually have zero pictures of them with any Santa.  They actually just met the dude for the first time last year just by coincidence.  I don’t know why because we actually do Santa, but it just never occurred to us to take them to see him.  I was determined to change my ways.  More than anything I wanted that crying baby with Santa picture.

Aaaaaand, I feel like we accomplished just that.

I puffy heart babies who are terrified of Santa.

Happy Tuesday!

I would seriously fly in from TX to attend one of your craft nights (wouldn’t hurt to see my family while I’m there either!;) And YAY for single moms…I was raised by the best one!!

  4. Okay… seriously… I would LOVE to attend (and would pay for it) your craft night! Great idea and I’m certain it rocked! Also, my 3yr old and I took goodies to a local school (I don’t have a elementary kiddo yet so we just randomly chose the closest school to us) and they looked at me like I was totally nutso! Oh well… spreading Christmas cheer nonetheless! Thanks for all the awesome ideas! And I cannot wait, cannot wait, like really cannot wait to hopefully, maybe, seriously would love to attend your craft night!

  5. i actually only like the santa pics where a baby is crying!!!

  6. I have to just brig on my aunt, now single mom for a minute… She & my uncle took in 2 of their grandchildren when her step daughter failed them miserably 🙁
Once the state officially took them permanently from their parents my aunt & uncle decoded to relocate to TN to give the kids a fresh start without their parents appearing in random places. 3 months after moving to TN my uncle suddenly died, leaving my aunt to raise these 2 boys by herself. In the past year she has pulled herself up off the floor after losing her lifelong partner, she figured out how to get the boys to & from school while she works not just full time but over-time in order to make ends meet. She keeps them involved in sports & the boys club and She managed to somehow buy her own home so the boys had a sense of permanency (her & my uncle never owned their own home)
She absolutely amazes me every single day with her strength & how much she insists on doing for those boys when their own parents don’t even bother to pay child support.
Kuddos to you for recognizing all the single moms out there & how amazing they are!!!

  7. PS. I would absolutely love to attend one of your craft nights when I’m up visiting my aunt 🙂
