9 Months Waiting Art Giveaway {closed}

Today is Harper and Hud’s first day of school aka 2-days-a-week Mother’s Day Out.  Huddy has never gone before and has told me countless times, since I broke the news to him, that he was just flat out not going.  He even goes into great lengths explaining how he going to fly home if he has to go…first on his wings and as I break it to him each time, “You don’t have wings”, he changes it to something new…rocket, airplane, hot air balloon.  It really is a completely pointless conversation because he really thinks he is going to fly home…one way or another.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this picture.  He looks like the captain of the All Male Cheer Team.  Josh would not be happy with this.  Gooooo Team Kelley…I really wish he was making spirit fingers as well.

So this morning we ventured out to school and it was, for the most part, a success.  There were tears from Huddy, but he got over it even before I left.  Harper was a bit apprehensive, but she put on her brave face + she was made for school.  She adores everything about it, just takes her a minute to warm up.

And then there was ONE!  Oh my.  Sol kept saying, “Me go to school too.”  He was so quiet, no tears, but just so very, very quiet.  I am so excited about this time we are going to have together.  I’m thrilled to just hang with him.

We did get to play a bit with our friend Josh.  That was nice for Sol.  They were the biggest hoot at Kroger together.  And cookies always make things better.

We have been talking this day up as much as possible and last night as Harper was going to bed, she asked if I would make her a special shirt with a bird.  Well, how could I not.  This morning, the very first thing she said, “Mom did you get a chance to make me a bird shirt?”  But of course.

I also made her little friend Trace, at school, a cowboy tee for him to sport at his cowboy birthday party.  Hope he loves it Kristy!

And as of yesterday we have officially been on the waitlist for 9 months.  As always, we are celebrating being another month closer to meeting our boy with an art giveaway.  The number 9 was hard to work with.  I could not find a verse or quote that I liked that included the word nine, so I went with a verse I love that has 9 words…”But as for me, I will always have hope.” Psalm 71:14  Seemed ever so appropriate for this time in our life.

I also included the definition of ‘hope’…I read it over and over and over again.  I would like this permanently engraved in my mind.

This is a 10×10 canvas and as always, we will ship it straight to the winner.  I’m pretty excited to see who wins this one.

As always there are lots of ways to enter to win this piece.

  8. I think this is the first time I have done this, but the theme of this piece resounds with my spirit. I too am waiting. Hope is something I have really struggled with lately. My wait has been 12 years. I know God is faithful, and his promises are Yes and Amen, but hope deferred makes the heart sick… Blessings to you. I am inspired daily by your artwork.

  9. Something that gives me hope is all the movement in Ethiopia over the last few weeks. Friends have received referrals, court dates, passed court, embassy clearance and came home with their beautiful children. Your time is near. The wait is so hard but I love that you celebrate each month of waiting!

  13. Your blog could not have come on a better day for me. We found out yesterday that my husband will no longer be able to serve in the Navy after already being in for 10 years due to military cutbacks. We were counting on him retiring. We have 4 small kids and I am a stay-at-home mom. After a very sleepless night and slow day worrying about this I just read your blog and the definition of “Hope” about 100 times, specifically “one that gives promise for the future”. Your words have given me hope. We are, indeed, in God’s hands and everything is going to be JUST FINE! Thanks, I needed the reminder!!! I pray that you get your baby boy home soon!

  14. I have hope lately in watching other families bring their Ethiopian babes home… hoping we can bring our Zoe home very soon!

Its going to sound strange but something that given me a little bit of hope lately–the fact that for the past two months we have had extra money from somewhere in our bank account. We keep thinking we missed a bill, but we can’t find one we missed, so its just there. This gives me hope that I can wait a little longer before having to go back to work.

  67. I am an adoption caseworker and one of my birthmother’s recently told me that she went to an abortion clinic to have an abortion and someone working in the clinic told her to NOT have an abortion. She left that day and called me. Now her precious baby that she is carrying will see life and be loved by a family. This fills my heart with so much hope for the future of this child! No doubt that God is working in the heart of this mother!

  74. God gives me hope, every day. We are in the beginning stages of adoption, wondering where all the money is going to come from. People have been crawling out of the woodwork offering help and support! Just talked to a friend from high school (haven’t seen each other or spoken in 12 years!) who offered us amazing help. God is truly overwhelming sometimes.

  84. I have seen many of your art pieces, and liked many, but as I try to recover today, and am doing a rather poor job, from spending 9 weeks in Haiti this summer with all 4 of our children together, but sadly, having to come home with only 3 of them again, as our adoption is not completed, your canvas on Hope brought more than tears to my eyes. I wish I could just buy this one. We function every day on HOPE. The hope that some morning soon, we will only have to walk across the hall to hug her, instead of fly across the ocean. You do beautiful work! I am soo hoping to win this one!

  107. What gives me hope is the face of a child. Each time I look at a child I see the beauty of what God has created and I know that He is still in control and allows us to view glimpses of Him thru each wonderfully special little child. All is right with my life and world when God is the center of it and children are the center of me.

She calms me when I’m upset about the wait and teaches me about His great plan. She gives me HOPE and I’d love to give this picture to her!!!

  133. Courtney Albright says:

my hope is that regardless of the delays and changes and happenings overseas, the Lord already knows who our future adopted child will be and has specifically picked us for each other – so all we have to do is wait (impatiently or not!) for His timing and the reward will be the blessing of our lives!

It gives me hope when I read other’s blogs such as yours who have such a heart for orphans. Hope that one day there will be no more! Every time I see a new piece of yours, it is more amazing than the last! Such beautiful work!

  156. I had to look up the verse, and I love what it goes on to say: “…I will praise you more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure. I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone. Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.” (Psalm 71:14b-18) Wow…that gives me hope. The idea that what He’s doing in my life now through infertility is ultimately going to be used by Him (no matter what the outcome) to bring glory to Himself and give me reason to praise and declare His power to the next generation is AWESOME!

  157. As we wait to bring our two girls home from Uganda, getting their room ready gives me a lot of hope. 🙂

  164. I hope I win because we are also waiting for our baby, and some days keeping hope is more difficult than others 🙂

  165. Allie Hershorn says:

Well, two things have given me hope recently.

One is my grandmother going into the hospital and acting like it was a stroll in Central Park. She makes me realize that anything is possible and gives me strength to carry on even when I’m sad or anxious.

The second is my friends and their kind words. They always know the right thing to say to cheer me up. It is like a mini- wake up call…They help me realize anything is possible as long as you set your mind to it and just be yourself.

  166. At the risk of sounding cheesy, God’s Word is my “go-to” place for hope. Amazingly enough, there is a passage, a verse, a story, a truth for every situation that comes my way…tonight’s hope message has been “Store up for yourselves riches in heaven, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

  167. I’ll write about it and link it up in my Friday blog post – topic that day is “favorites” 🙂

  168. Shared it on my facebook…

  204. I am in the process of adopting two children from Uganda – one with whom has special needs…and her name is Esther:) I heard about her on a friends blog and then all over facebook…how if she did not have a family by December that she would moved up to the “older kids” orphanage and never be adoptable after that. The Lord showed me that we were her family but that I would also be bringing home a little boy as well. I have received HOPE so often in the last few weeks when this journey began…HOPE when the orphanage emailed me immediately back…HOPE when we raised EXACTLY the amount needed to pay for the homestudy and medical exams by having a yard sale and fundraisers and donations…HOPE again when I received a prophetic message from someone that told me that there would be TWO children coming home with us…and then HOPE again when I received a positive email from the orphanage again….and then HOPE when a reporter that heard about our story decided to write a story about our journey to spread orphan awareness – which will give others HOPE….I could go on and on about the HOPE in my heart dear friend and for a long time I have been HOPING to win one of your giveways! I will blog about it, facebook about it, tweet about it and I will even add your art work to my Pinterest page so that is even more than anyone else:!!!!!:)

I am realizing lately that all I have is HOPE – and of course my HOPE is Christ Jesus. But oh some days it is just plain hard to live in the reality of Hope – like right now – I have hope for my children to be walking faithfully with Christ – but I don’t see it always – I have hope for our newest grandson to get a visa so our daughter & her family can come “home” to see us – but I don’t see it right now – but I know that HOPE is TRUE, FAITHFUL, and ETERNAL – so I hope – and trust – and walk totally by faith & not sight!! 242. Hope….at this point in my life as a foster mom, there have been moments when I’ve wanted to give up on “hope” wondering if there was even a purpose to do so or even if it was ok to do so in our particular circumstance. What I’m learning is that God wants to know the truths of my heart even if they differ from His perfect will. And HOPE is very much a truth of my heart right now! Thanks for this perfect scripture reminder, it was the ONE I needed today!

  260. Something that gives me hope is watching my friends raise their children to follow Christ. That He will be made known in our community, country, & world!

  261. i shared on fb!

  262. Something that gives me hope: I lost a dear friend a little over a year ago while he was doing humanitarian aid work in Afghanistan. Shortly thereafter I started sponsoring a little boy through Compassion Intl. who shared my friend’s first and middle names. And then through a crazy set of “coincidences” I was able to meet that little boy on the one year anniversary of my friend’s death. I was surprised (though I shouldn’t have been) to find that my sponsor child and my friend were so alike, even down to the hairstyle. God was so intricately interwoven into those details, and to know He cares so much that He would tend to my heart as I grieve in such a way totally infuses my world with hope.

Many blessings, Laura. Praying that this waiting will soon be over!

  343. Bonnie Glueck says:

I recently (in April) married a man with 3 children. I never wanted kids of my own. The kids were never taught about God. Since our marriage, we have the kids in church, prayers before bed and meals, weekly memory verses… We dove right in and are raising the kids in our home the way that I was raised in mine. Thankfully my husband has become a christian himself over the last year. What gives me hope is that the kids now ASK to pray, I look over and all 3 are holding hands around the table waiting for us to sit down to pray. They are REALLY upset if we have to miss chuch. They are SO thirsty to learn and pray and hear bible stories… this gives me hope that my husband and I are having an influence on 3 little souls and that one day very soon that they too will become saved.

Hope is in a lady named Elisa Luna. She is the principal at the school my husband works at. She was shot 1 1/2 years ago in the back by one of her teachers. She is paralyzed from the waist down. The school she is at is an inner city school. Students there have hard lives. Ms. Luna is the essence of Hope. She has shown those students, including my son, Landon, that there is always hope. She has had a hard road of recovery. She is working full time now, back at the school and is walking with a walker. She has learned how to walk using her hips. She is an inspiration of hope!

  380. Elizabeth Hodge says:

God’s faithfulness in bringing the exact word that I need from Him gives me hope.

  381. As I enter this drawing, I’m forced to reflect upon what hte verse means to me personally. Through the heart shattering trials of life, God consistently, faithfully, proves that He is good. He’s the light in our dark, the sweet in our sour, “the aid in our lemon” so to speak. He is life, He is good, He gives hope. No mater how long or dark the night, no matter how heart wrenching and painsteaking the trial, we can always have hope, because our God is good… ALL THE TIME. And so “as for me, I will always have hope” <3

  437. I’ll reply with lyrics from a song that I dearly love, Hope by Sarah Groves.

Hope has a way of turning it’s face to you just when you least expect it. You walk in a room, you look out a window and something there leaves you breathless. You say to yourself, it’s been a while since I felt this but it feels like it might be Hope”.

Waiting for our little sweetheart for almost four years now and I will never lose hope!

  450. The thing that has given me hope lately is the LACK of abnormalities that have come back in the tests for my health concerns. Once we’ve ruled everything out, we can finally get to the root of the problem. We’re so very close to that, so that’s where my hope is. The tiny light at the end of a very long tunnel that grows brighter every day…
