3 Months Waiting Giveaway

We have officially been on the waitlist for our next little guy for 3 months now.  So yesterday I snagged up a 15th paper and set to work.  I went with a 8×10 canvas with 1 Corinthians 13:13 “…now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.” I also was really drawn to the single word home.  This is where I want our son and I know God’s timing is perfect, so we wait and pray for the day when he is home.

I have to be honest, I am actually a pretty good waiter.  I don’t call our agency, like ever.  I know when it’s time they will call.  And believe it or not, I have no idea what number we are.  Part of me doesn’t want to know–I can be very OCD and I think that number might take over in mind, so I just let it go.  So it’s not the waiting that is getting to me, it’s that I think about my son everyday and tons, but I don’t have a big belly to remind family and friends that I am expecting a child.  People tend to not ask about him or pray about him at family gatherings or ask how we are doing.  I am trying not to be sensitive about this because I know there is no physical reminder for them to see, but it’s just not easy having a child that is not home…it’s not easy having a child half way around the world.

A friend of mine just casually asked the other day if we had heard any news and I just about leaped out of my skin with joy.  I later sent her a message thanking her for remembering our boy and asking about him.  It really made my day to know that she was thinking about him…because I was too.  He is always on my mind and we talk about him in our home everyday.  Harper knows she has another brother in Ethiopia and she knows we are waiting for God’s timing right now.  The boys pray sweet prayers for their brother.  So we wait and celebrate each month with a special art giveaway.  I can’t wait to show him one day, how we celebrated each month getting a little closer to meeting him.

  1. I’ve been encouraged lately by reading through Philippians with my girls!

  2. My church has been so encouraging lately. Someone overheard me rambling about needing more dishes to host our bi-monthly dinners. We left church one Sunday to find a box a new dishes sitting on our seat in the truck. We’re really growing in love lately and it’s awesome!

  3. Posted on facebook! I really love this one!!!

  4. We adopted our first child, and I know exactly what you mean about the anticipation not being the same among your friends and family when you are adopting as when you are physically pregnant. I was encouraged reading how you process it and how you are not resentful of that. Just aware is all. It’s a gracious attitude you are taking.

I love this 3 Months Waiting piece. Crossing my fingers I can bring it home! 🙂

I came across your page through a dear friend and I’m just so blown away. I love pretty much everything on your page. Oh my goodness! But this one touched me especially for so many reasons. I’m from TN, too, so right away I loved the shout out with the paper. 🙂 But even moreso, after 2 years of dealing with infertility, this just reminded that even in the hurt and the waiting and the wanting in our lives, there is a plan and a purpose and always an opportunity to glorify the Lord. How awesome to have that in your home as a daily reminder. Keep up the amazing work! (and pick me!)

  5. It’s been blogged at http://www.live-with-laughter.blogspot.com Thanks for the chance to win!

  10. Love it! you are so wonderfully talented. We are in the midst of our third adoption from ET. Someday (when we have the money) I am going to place a big custom order with you! 🙂

I have been studying Isaiah and though a lot of it seems heavy, I am so encouraged by the prophecies that have already been fulfilled. I have learned so much about God’s sovereignty! Looking at the prophecies yet to come is scary, but amazing.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  18. I lead worship at a teen retreat last weekend. At the end of the retreat a student came up to me and thanked me for leading. (that wasn’t the encouraging part). He went on to specifically tell me how I helped draw him into worship in different ways….of reminding him what we were doing and why were here etc. It was way more than playing guitar and singing. It was drawing people in.

  19. We have been waiting one month officially for a 2-3 year old boy…I can so relate!!

  26. Lately I have been overwhelmed with the stress of college and planning my may wedding. It’s like when I’m in class, all I can think about is all that needs to be done wedding wise, and when it comes to wedding planning my mind races to all the schoolwork I have. I feel as if there are not enough hours in the day.
There are 3 people that keep me sane and remind me of what’s important. God blesses me daily, feeding me scriptures such as this one, that help me through my day. He is the best god and my best friend. Next I have my fiancé Jordan. The love of my life. We complete each other and always seem to know just what the other needs to hear. This scripture is one that is sort of a motto for our relationship of you will. (check out the bottom of our wedding website. http://Www.wix.com/jordancarlylefevre/wedding) he is amazing and always reminds me that when everything else is falling apart I have a God that wraps his arms around me and that we have our love and both of these things are far greater than anything else we could even begin to fathom. Last but certainly not least, there is my sweet mother. He has and always will be my best frien and confidant. I love her so much and will miss her immensely when I get married. She is constantly encouraging me in life and to to well for myself by bettering myself. She made me a valentines card a year or two ago that I find myself stumbling upon all the time. She made it herself. it simply says how she was a middle child like I am so se knows the feelings I have. She has been there. Then she said she loves me. She then put 1 Corinthians 13 on the card and finished with a statement: I wish you happiness, hope, and love. I alway seem to find the card at the most convenient times where I need to hear her sweet words the most.
I know I sort of got long winded but I believe I could continue on forever. Your blog is so inspiring and uplifting whether you are aware of it or not. Thank you for sharing.

  29. My friends have been very supportive lately. When someone does ask if we’ve heard anything, I’m like you, it’s great to share that no nothing is going on, but this is how I’m feeling about it!

  30. love you laura. love your heart. love your passion. and love that you love Jesus most of all!

  31. I am encouraged by your honesty! Although our situation is slighty different I am familiar with the feelings, I feel like I am walking a tightrope at times. I have even been told by loved ones recently that I talk about adoption too much and maybe we should keep it between ourselves. It is hard not being sensitive. But like your beautiful piece of art reminds let us hold onto faith, hope and love….especially LOVE!

  32. I’ve been encouraged by Gods word lately. Just reminded of HIS love for me. It still amazes me! Love this piece you made and would love to have it in my home! 🙂

  33. Looove this! I love all your work, but I really love the ‘home’ piece of this one. I have two adopted sons…one from Guatemala and one from Ethiopia. I totally get it. It’s on your mind all the time. It’s a blessing and a weight. The anxiety is in the room with you almost all the time and in those brief moments when you forget to think about it, you feel guilty for forgetting. I don’t think that most people understand how truly difficult the process is.
In the end, it’s the most wonderful thing you could ever do and all of this will be totally worth it.

  34. I’ve been very encouraged by some sweet, godly friends who have reminded me to perservere and be always grateful.
    Love the piece Laura!!

  35. I tweeted!

  36. Sweet Laura, I’m praying for you.. please know that! We were so encouraged lately in the waiting by a new couple in our small group that remembers every Sunday when we see them to ask if we’ve heard any news… so amazing that the Lord brings that to their minds!

  119. Hannah Montee says:

I have been so encouraged by our immediate/church family and a friend of ours in Florida. We, too are in the middle of an adoption (and were just recently matched w/our little girl!!!). These people have all constantly been asking what the current status for the adoption is and if we’ve heard anything new. This has been such a journey for us and these people have all helped lighten the load. I want you to know we have been thinking of you all in your adoption as well! It is very hard when you don’t have that “baby bump” but instead are “pregnant on paper” yet you really want people to know about how excited you are nonetheless. Just know you and your family are being thought of!!! I hope you get matched with your son soon!!!

  120. I am encouraged by my pastor and his wife and their family. They have a heart for orphans and are currently in the process of adopting from Ethiopia. She made a CD to help raise money for the adoption. My baby girl (8 yr old) listens to it everynight. Thank you for your heart.

  121. You encourage me!! I love how you love your family and life!

  123. Jaime Whitaker says:

I was encouraged hearing of a woman who wanted to serve God but was unsure of what to do. She was a hairdresser and made Nepal her mission field. She opened a beauty shop to train women who came out of the sex trading rings there how to cut hair to support themselves.

I was so inspired. I don’t mean to allude that hair stylist isnt a good career, but I would not have thought to use that skill in that way to serve Christ. I often feel talentless or that I have nothing to offer the mission field. I can’t fix teeth, I’m not a nurse etc. This woman’s story reminded me that if He calls me, He will equip me. Special talents I need not.

Praying for you and your sweet boy.

    Love, Jaime W.

  124. My friend Jess has been a big encouragement to me, for a number of reasons. She’s always supportive, understanding, and “pushy” (in a good way) no matter what I am facing.

  136. My pastor’s sermon on Sunday greatly encouraged me!

  137. Hey Laura, I’m thankful for reading your blog today and the gentle reminder that those adopting are still “expecting” a child, just not in the physical way that we can see. I think of you often and others that are adopting so this is a cool reminder to me to remember to ask!
I was recently inspired by Esther Burroughs who spoke at a women’s event recently. I can’t even translate into words what exactly inspired me, I just felt the Holy Spirit move me in ways I haven’t felt lately.
Praying for you and all of those expectant families!

  170. I’ve been recently encouraged by our close friends as we hit a big bump in our adoption process. I’m so blessed to be surrounded by prayerful, Godly women.

  171. I’m on FB, too.

  172. I liked your page on facebook. New people that I have recently met through blogland have been such an encouragement to me…just knowing there are others who are just as passionate to “cry out for the voiceless.”

  173. Out of the blue I got a message from a girl that I used to be in a youth group with (over 10 years ago). I haven’t talked to her in a LONG time – maybe close to those 10 years. She told me that she has recently been going to a new church (not the denomination we grew up in) and she remembers specifically one time in youth where everyone was “bashing” this particular denomination. She said I was the only one who stood up and said to stop, and that we were all brothers and sisters and had an open mind that everyone else is not necessarily wrong. I do not remember this conversation at all, but it really encouraged me to know that she did remember it, and it helped her now – some 10-15 years later. Pretty cool.

  174. Following my fellow adoption blogs and seeing others go through the same process has been the one thing that has gotten me thus far in our wait (20 1/2 months waiting)! Our first adoption took much less time, and so I have to continue to believe that God is now teaching us the patience this time around! I LOVE your work and hope one day to have some in our home! God bless you on your wait for your newest blessing!
    Nikki

p.s. I know what you mean about it making your day when someone asks about your adoption! I feel the same way!

  175. I’m already a friend on facebook!

  176. You … you actually encouraged me with what you shared on your blog. I rejoice over the heart He has given you for your expectant son. I rejoice and am humbled by the simple ways you and your family are loving the “fatherless.”

  177. Amy M. Murphy says:

Awwwww this post just touched my heart. I remember when my brother & sister-in-law where wait for my niece eight years ago. They adopted from China. I clearly remember the day they finally got their referral, picture, bio etc. It was the sweetest little face we had prayed for so long for. I pray for you and your son in Ethiopia.

  178. Congratulations on making it three months. The waiting is a killer, so I’m feeling your pain (our daughter came home a year ago). I just became a fan on facebook and am LOVING your shirts, the pillows, your ideas with fabrics, your party favors (crazy cute). We made crayon discs for Valentine’s day too.

    Thanks and Ethiopia or bust!

  179. I was feeling very discouraged by something happening in my family that is separating people. One night I got so frustrated, that I began to cry. I cried off and on all that night, and all during the next day. When I finished, I realized that all of those tears had washed every bit of the discouragement away. Nothing like coming to the end of your rope to find renewed encouragement. =)

I feel very encouraged by the love and devotion of the parents of the Guatemala900 group. Most of these parents are caught up in political issues that have delayed their adoptions at.least.THREE. years! (with no end concretely in sight) The courage and persistance in these journeys gives me a reassurance of humanity’s determination to fight for those they love…having a child who could have easily been one of those still in Guatemala, I believe I am encouraged daily to count my blessings and love the gifts I was graced by God to love and hold in my arms!

So I have several people that have encouraged me and I am so grateful for it, because my family hasn’t been as encouraging—-Jennifer Chase (who led me to your site & has commented above) has encouraged me in our early steps of adoption. Also my best friends near me have joined me in planning some fundraisers for our Ethiopian daughter—yeah it is so much better doing this “with” people. I appreciated your insights….even before reading this today I realized we are in a long “expectancy” (rather than pregnancy)….

  191. Laura, this looks wonderful! Three months already, I;m sure to you all it seems to be dragging by!
I have been very encouraged lately by my middle schoolers who tell me each time I visit” we’re counting down the days until you come back!” I’m currently on maternity leave and the thought of leaving both my boys, especially my 3 month old, in daycare breaks my heart. At the same time it is special knowing my students, my other kids, are ready and excited for my return!

  217. We are month 2 of waiting for our referral and I have found it’s hard for people to understand. Not many people ask us questions either. We pray for our son daily and I just want to see who God has picked out for our family. I read somewhere that during the waiting, I have to remember that God is writing our son’s testimony and I should trust in that. How true that really is.

  218. Fan on FaceBook

  219. Shared giveaway on FaceBook

  220. I get daily encouragement from my kids, not in the form of words, but in their smiles, hugs, and laughter. Your story made me cry when I read it and that you are still waiting. I will be praying that your son is home soon with you where he belongs. And I love all of your work and this one is no different. It is beautiful. 🙂

as we are waiting on our referral from Taiwan, I think it is such a great idea for you to share this with your future son. It’s hard with a toddler to keep excited about waiting…for her baby brother also. What a great way to commemorate our promise to Wait Upon The LORD! Always LOVE reading your blog…it helps me remember that God’s timing IS perfect and our daughter is such a testimony to that! She is ABSOLUTELY perfect for our family and I KNOW that our next one will be too!
    Thanks!!

  227. I was so encouraged by the mom’s group I attend. Yesterday we heard that by affirming the name of the Lord over your life, it allows us to remember he is always in control. Ie: “you are my Messiah, you are my Savior, you are my Beginning and End…” what a great way to start and finish each day!

  228. My kids pediatrician today was sweet and so encouraging today…which was needed considering we have the flu at our house. Boooooo.

  254. Catherine Sivills says:

I have been inspired by two of my friends who have recently BEAT breast cancer (one was in early stage but the other was a very rare, aggressive cancer and she just returned from MD Anderson with fabulous news) – they inspired me because they both relied on their faith and fought back with confidence that God would guide their battle.

  255. Hubs and I have been watching LOST for the first time ever. I’m talking 3 seasons in less than a month. We’re sort of consumed with it. So while I really want to be serious and tell you some great verse (and there are many) that has encouraged me…I’m going to be random and have to tell you that I’m encouraged by watching those crazy people on LOST and knowing as insane as this world can be, at least it isn’t THAT insane. 🙂

  263. I pray for our little one every day. Right now, I’m praying that this whole process will hurry up. See, I had counted on having this little one here for Easter. I also pray that GOD has placed someone in his life to meet his needs until he is placed in your arms. I know that there are lots of things that little ones need and I’m asking GOD to provide all those things through someone there, someone who will take the time to cuddle and sing, like you will to our little guy when he comes home. HOME what a work. When I think of HOME, I think, not of a place but of safety, love, security, joy, laughter, family, and most importantly GOD. I know GOD’s timing is perfect and we just need to be faithful and wait on HIM. Love you both, Mom

  268. I love this piece! I have been encouraged lately by my Mom who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. She has a lot to be discouraged about, but she faces each day with a great attitude and ends up helping others.
