For Meiya

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andy and Becky, are expecting their first baby near the end of August.  They are having a baby girl, Meiya.  We are all so excited, especially knowing we will be adding another little girl to the Kelley clan of girls.  Becky is from China and Meiya’s name 梅 娅 is taken from Becky’s mother’s name and the first character that makes Meiya’s name 梅 is the character for cherry blossom.  So when I asked Andy and Becky about making something for Meiya’s room they asked if I could paint some cherry blossoms.  I was thrilled.  I absolutely love the canvas size, 12×48.  So it’s REALLY long and thin.  Perfect for over Meiya’s crib and perfect for tree branch length.  The background is a pale pink and I left room at the far left for Becky to write Meiya’s name in Chinese.  Chinese calligraphy is extremely difficult so I’m leaving that to her mama.  We can’t wait to meet baby Meiya and hope one day she’ll know her Aunt Laura made this just for her.

For McKinley

My little niece McKinley’s 3rd birthday is coming up near the end of July and I wanted to make her a special shirt. She is having a Minnie Mouse party, so I asked Kim about maybe doing Minnie or a cupcake. She told me that either one would be great and that McKinley is also really into giraffes right now. McKinley’s new secret is, “I love giraffes.” So a giraffe is what I chose. I love how colorful and girly it is. And I really like the sweet little flower. I know McKinley will be too cute in her birthday giraffe tee.

Dachshund Painting

This piece was ordered by my sister-in-law Jen for my niece Campbell.  I made another recent post for a BIG C for Campbell’s room, but Jen needed something else to girly it up.  I made the suggestion for a dachshund painting.  Campbell loves dogs in general, but really loves our mini dachshund Carmen.  So this is what I came up with.  I like using the 8×24 size canvas for things of this nature…a long, thin dog.  For the collar instead of painting it, I used some patterned paper and big flower button with a C in the middle, for Campbell of course.  I hope Campbell loves it.

Popsicles Yum!

My daughter Harper is loving popsicles. Now she doesn’t get them that often and when she does it’s Dad or me sharing ours with her, but boy does she like them. She always makes sure to throw in several, “Mmmmm”s, while enjoying the treat. And yes I am the mom that chases the icecream guy down the street to flag him down for a yummy Bombpop for herself. So I recently decided Harper needed a popsicle shirt for summer and I finished it up today. I know Harper is going to look super cute in it.

Happy Father’s Day Josh

I’ve been holding onto this post for over a month now, but finally I get to share it with everyone. My husband Josh actually looks at my site so you will see the reason for not posting this cute little tank top I made for my daugther Harper. I wanted her to be sporting something super special for her Daddy on Father’s Day because he’s just that great of a Dad and not too shabby of a husband either. We love you Josh and Happy Dad Day!

Carmen for Harper

This cute little tank top is for my own daughter Harper. For months I’ve had this plain, light pink tank top for her and haven’t had a moment to work on it, so today I set aside some time. I thought about what Harper loves and she loves her dog Carmen. Carmen is a dachshund and dachshunds have extremely long faces. My husband Josh always says, “Carmen, why the long face?” So of course I had to give this cute little pup tank a long face. After I finished the shirt I showed it to Harper and she said, “dowwg” and then proceeded to carry it around the house. I’m glad she likes it and I know she will be too cute wearing it also.

Forgiving Tree

This order was placed by Stef for a mixed media piece. I really enjoyed doing this piece because all Stef told me was she wanted me to use the verse Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other Just as in Christ God forgave you.” The rest she left up to me. I used a very thick canvas, 4×12 and went with an odd little tree. I really like how it turned out. I used tons of ink and charcoals to accentuate the lines. Thanks Stef so much for your business.

For My Mom and a little one

This first piece posted was for my mom’s birthday, which was yesterday and I completely forgot to take pictures of it before handing it over. So today I got to take a few photos to share with you. My MawMaw’s favorite hymn was Love Lifted Me and my mom can remember her singing that to her when she was a little girl. So I chose a line from the hymn “Love so might and so true, merits my souls best song – Faithful, loving service too, to Him belongs – Love lifte me, Love lifted me”. I think my mom really liked it.

This order I completed today was ordered by Lori for a friend of her’s…the little baby boy is expected to arrive in July.  His name will be Tyler and his room is decorated in brown and blue polka dots. Lori wanted a onesie and burpcloth with the letter “t”. It just so happened I had the perfect fabric, brown and blue polka dots. Thanks again Lori for your business and I hope the mom-to-be loves it.
