The Friar Tuck, St. Jude & Other Ramblings

Let’s kick this off with some bath time hilarity.  So honesty time…still working on the whole “bathing our kids” thing.  It’s a process.  4 kids is a lot…well, at least it’s a lot to us.  That’s a lot of bathing.  So we’re still working on our routine…our 2-A-Weeks…baby steps folks, baby steps.  The kids help out by reminding us…a lot…especially Harper..God love her.

Solomon is typically our quiet child to outsiders looking in, but he’s really the ham of the bunch.  Always.  The faces.  The potty jokes.  He’s sure to be class clown of his graduating class.  And ohmygah…Hudson’s hand on his hip and arm muscle…I die.  They are ridiculously hilarious.

We call this one “The Friar Tuck”.

I am a big fan of a the mohawk on Solomon.  Every time I take him to the barber I request one.  He just looks so dang cute with it.  #mohawkloveforever

We’re becoming quite the running partners.  She makes our days so much brighter.

Speaking of running…my cousins Emily, Charlie and Chad are running the 1/2 marathon in just a few days and helping raise funds for St. Jude while they’re at it.  It is so fun to set goals and then reach them and currently they’re just $260 shy of their goal.  Did you know patients and families pay for NOTHING when they are at St. Jude?  Nothing.  Not one thing.  Our cousin Hannah had cancer when she was little…she’s 18 now and even still when she goes back for check ups, they pay nothing…not even for lunch while on campus.  The care St. Jude provides is unmatched and unheard of.  Let’s help them hit their goal…it’s a most worthy cause.  CLICK HERE to donate…all the money goes directly the patients and families at St. Jude.

And lastly Amon has become a complete nut over baseball.  He’s infatuated…in love…slightly obsessed.  We throw ball all day long.  He wears an old school baseball helmet like 72.6% of the day.  Why cover up that amazing hair?!?!?!  Always with the helmet.  Which has started to cause some safety concerns.  What all little boy he is.

Now I’m off to put hardware on 102 key fobs.  Should be a good day.

Happy Thursday.

Oh Boy!

Hudson was frustrated with Sol and said, “Uggghhh, you are so…” and before he could finish his sentence Sol inserted, “Adorable?”

One night after baseball practice Sol ran around the back of Josh’s truck to get in on the other side and a car drove past just as he went around the back.  It almost gave me a heart attack and of course I went a little on the crazy mom side going way overboard with reminding him about cars and the park and how he’s small and drivers can’t see him and I just made him feel like he was in trouble instead of me just wanting to remind him because I thought he was going to get hit by a car.  He climbed in the truck in tears and as we drove down the road I said, “Sol you’re not in trouble.  It’s just if anything ever happened to you…” and before I could finish Hudson said, “You’d never forgive yourself?”

The boys got in the car after school one day and asked me a question, which I don’t even recall what it was, but it required some explaining.  After I explained whatever it was Hudson leaned over near Sol’s face and said, “Sol, are you thinking what I’m thinking?”  To which Sol leaned over close to Hudson’s face and replied, “Oh I’m thinking what you’re thinking.”  And I never even got to the bottom of what they were thinking.

One of the boys passed gas silently the other day while they were drawing and coloring.  I was sitting with them and said, “Whoa, what’s so smelly?”  To which Hudson piped up with, “It must be you because your stink is strong.”

And lastly, I made the unfortunate mistake of taking the boys with me to get a new bra at Target.  It had to be done…like I was in dire need.  There were no alternatives.  There was no waiting any longer.  I should also preface this by saying we have had lots of mammal and breast feeding conversations in our house lately because Harper’s class has been studying animals.  Therefore, lots of breast milk questions and comments.  And we shoot straight with our kids.  As we entered the dressing room I instructed Huddy and Sol to sit with their faces in one direction, while I did my trying on in the other direction.  Amon was a lose cannon as always.  Hopefully he won’t be scarred for life. Sol sat silently.  Hudson, not so much.  He asked all of the following questions: “Like if you had to feed a baby right now would your boobies still make milk?”  “Why are you putting back on that old dirty one (bra), when you just had on that nice new one?”  “Hey remember that time you”…and then went into graphic imagery about an unfortunate breast feeding incident when Sol was a baby.  He was relentless…would not stop…just kept ’em coming.  And the ladies in the adjoining dressing rooms all enjoyed a good laugh.  I cringed just a little bit more each time I heard the friendly snickers.

Aaaaaand, you’re welcome.

Happy Thursday!

The Cast Houdini

Well, he was just getting use to his cast.  He was actually starting to use his right hand a little again.  He was even sleeping through the night.  When he broke his arm on Wednesday he did not sleep good Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Finally on Saturday night he slept like his regular little good sleeper self again.

And then yesterday happened.  I always thought Huddy and Sol were pretty crazy.  Like the hilarious, funny, wild, little boy crazy.  Huddy once got his head stuck under Harper’s bed as a toddler and had a pretty consistent streak of getting in our cabinets and dumping out bags of food like chips and animal crackers.  But Amon…oh Amon…he takes the prize.  Easily.  He loves our toilets and climbing on everything and getting into everything and breaking…ummmm…almost everything.  And yesterday he managed to take his own cast off.  Yep.  There sat his red cast with some doodled hearts on it.  I couldn’t believe it.

How in the world you ask?  I have no idea.  All I know is Sol said, “Mom, Amon just took his cast off and threw it on the floor.”  And there it sat.  He’s a tricky guy, this Amon fellow.  Yes he is.  So I called the doctor’s office, let them in on the craziness of our child and then waited for them to call back.  Amon took a nap.  Broken right arm neatly resting on Simba.

Just a little later we were headed back to the hospital to get him re-casted.  The dude who put his first cast on also did his second cast.  When we walked in he just laughed.  They put him in a full arm…up to his little shoulder…new cast.  As the dude was putting the new one on he said, “He won’t be getting out of this one.”  I tend to believe him this time.

What’s super funny is just a few nights before we busted him on our kitchen table with a pair of kid scissors trying to cut his cast.  I had completely forgotten about it until I ran across the picture last night.

I suppose we should have taken him a bit more seriously.  #irony

Happy Tuesday.

Boys & Haircuts

First of all, No we are not cutting Amon’s hair…never, ever, ever.  Not in my life time at least.  He will be Samson.  Except his power will be in his eyes.

Both Huddy and Sol have been long over due for haircuts.  We’re talking loooonnngggg over due.  I noticed Huddy’s hair this morning and decided today was the day.

Josh had part of the day off so he took the boys separately to get their cuts.  Huddy was up first and off to Great Clips he went.  When he came back he was a new man.  He seriously looked like a slick little dude.  He is just this crazy sweet-hearted child and now is looking as handsome as ever.

Sol was next.  Josh dropped Huddy off…treats were exchanged…and Sol was off to the barber.  The boys are not separate much, so Josh used this time to be one-on-one with each of them.  The only thing is Huddy missed Sol.  He kept asking when he was going to be done with his haircut and back home.  Truly he pestered the fire out of me, so finally we made a phone call and Huddy and Sol had a good brotherly kid chat on the phone.  It was hilarious.  I love them so very very much and it’s deep.

Sol got home a little later and was looking sharp.  Like seriously S.H.A.R.P.  Sol is the kid you just want to ball up into a cannon ball shape and carry in your pocket for good pursed lip kisses and tight hugs.  And he’s passionate as all get out.  Dude is looking good now.  Ladies beware.

That’s how our day rolled.  Nothing super spectacular or even crafty.  Just some cute little Kelley boys and new haircuts.  I’ll take it.

Happy Wednesday.
