Some Firsts

Harper had her very first kindergarten field trip today.  It was super cold and then it rained, but the rain held off just long enough for us to have a bit of fun.  It was super nice being with just Harper and her little classmates are all dolls.  The kindergarten teacher in me did start to come out during lunch when it was a bit chaotic, but her classmates were all cool as cucumbers.  Super sweet kiddos.

We accidentally grew our first pumpkin plant.  Apparently you can completely not take care of a pumpkin plant and it will power on through to become a pumpkin…despite your unknowing and lack of effort.  Hardy little guy.

I ordered our first ever coloring thank you cards and I could not be more excited about my kids writing their thank you notes now.  My dear sweet Dana at Lifelines Design designed these 5×7 cards just for the wee Kelleys.  They’re pretty awesome.  {You rock Dana.}  I think she should totally add them to her store.  What about you?

And next week will be my first ever Random Acts of Kindness birthday week.  I’m turning the big 3-0 and originally wanted to do 30 acts of kindness on my birthday day, but then I had to get real with myself since I have one small wee Kelley who is quarantined from the outside world and all its germs.  So I decided to make it a birthday week full of kindness and divide my 30 kind deeds up between the week…6 kind deeds every day…Monday-Friday…6×5=30.  It took some strategic thinking, but I think I have it all worked out perfectly.  Including a giveaway for you guys too.

Next week is going to be a grand week.  Enjoy your weekend.

Happy Friday!

  1. We love the book “Too Many Pumpkins” by Linda White. It’s about a woman who hates pumpkins and refuses to grow them in her garden, but when a pumpkin truck accidentally loses one and it smashes in her yard—she finds pumpkins grow even when you don’t take care of them, water them, tend them, etc. Hardy little guys! Wish my garden grew that easily 🙂

  2. We actually had a pumpkin vine come up in the wooded area across the street where we threw out our pumpkin guts last year. It grew us nine little pumpkins about the size of the one Harper is holding in the picture!

  3. I love that your are so pumped about serving other people, even strangers on your birthday. It’s a pretty awesome thing to give so freely of your time, talents, money, and love. Happy Birthday, early!

  4. I look so forward to your post everyday ~ Harper is growing up so fast ~ Funny I missed Amon today ~ I pray for complete healing and strength for him. I hope your birthday week is so special Laura ~ you deserve it. The thank you notes are pretty cool too ~ she definitely should add them in her store. Have a great weekend ~ keep little Amon warm and snuggly close ~ I would totally squeeze him if I could get my hands on him he is so adorable. I am making plans for 30 days of kindness acts leading up to Christmas ~ not my birthday ~ just random acts of kindness because of HIS Love <3 Blessings

  5. Harper is such a big girl! I can only imagine how much fun y’all had on her field trip! I love your idea for your week of kindness to celebrate your birthday! I might “borrow” your idea and tweak it a bit so my girl can participate… never too early to begin teaching her about helping and giving to others! That’s probably one of my biggest fears as a parent, that my girl will think that somehow she is entitled to all the blessings she has instead of seeing them as blessings to be shared. Thanks for the prompting to share random acts of kindness in this upcoming season. I’ll send you a few blessings to share too! 🙂 Hope y’all have a wonderful weekend!

  6. You have totally inspired me! I’ll be turning 51 soon. It’ll be a challenge to come up with ideas.
